Savage gets a waistlock from the next lock up and is backed into the corner, Butch Reed hits him with an elbow and a knee then snapmares him down and hits a fist drop. Reed sends Savage's head into the top turnbuckle, but Randy Savage blocks the second attempt and gives it back to Reed. He gets a knee lift to the shoulder but can't get Reed up for a suplex, Butch Reed shows him how it's done and hits an elbow drop, barely getting 2. Reed gets some shots in on Savage and Savage rolls out to the apron, Reed snaps his neck off the top rope. Reed lays the boots in as Savage is getting back in the ring and sends him off the ropes into a back elbow. Butch Reed goes to the top rope for a fist drop. Savage rolls under the bottom rope again to stop Reed from being able to pin him, Savage is sent off the ropes but Reed ducks early and is kicked in the face. Randy Savage backs him into the corner with jabs and an elbow to the top of the head but Reed reverses the irish whip. Savage avoids the charge but his irish whip is reversed again, Savage hits the ropes and runs into a clothesline. Butch Reed climbs to the top rope, but Savage brings him back down to the mat, he hits the Elbow Drop from the top rope and covers, going through to the quarterfinals to face Greg Valentine.
WINNER: RANDY SAVAGE
This was a basic match to reserve energy for the next three rounds. It was even for it's short duration and no one looked particularly week. It's just a flaw of the format that they had to rush through it. It was still a servicable match that added to the story though.– As a match, it's * but personally, I'd rate it 3/10
