This match kicks off Smackdown, after Stephanie McMahon runs down tonight's card in a video package, Rikishi and Mark Henry don't even get an entrance. At least it starts by saying the tournament starts now and it's good to its word. Michael Cole and Tazz are on commentary for this match.
LOS GUERREROES VS. RIKISHI & MARK HENRY
(WWE Tag Team Championshups Tournament quarterfinals)
WWE Smackdown (3rd October 2002)
Los Guerreroes jump-start the match, attacking their bigger opponents in the corners. Henry and Rikishi both counter irish whips and send each Guerrero in a corner. Eddie misses the charge, avoids a kick from Kish then is sent into Chavo. Rikishi knocks them both down with a double clothesline as Henry leaves the ring, Chavo rolls out so Eddie Guerrero starts this one. He slips out of the corner, hitting rights on Rikishi, Chavo gets a shot in from the apron too. Rikishi reverses an irish whip, Eddie ducks a clothesline, and stops in his tracks as he almost collides with Rikishi's ass. He then tries a sunset flip but gets out of harm's way before Rikishi sits down, allowing Chavo Guerrero to tag himself in. Eddie is sent over with a hip toss, Chavo runs into a Samoan drop and Rikishi kicks Eddie, sending him outside. Mark Henry gets the tag, he brings Chavo to his feet who back elbows Henry, Chavo gets a right hand in but it does nothing, Henry catches the second attempt and sends Chavo out of the ring with one hand.
Eddie runs into the ring and is lifted into a military press, Chavo takes advantage with a chop block to Henry's knee, then starts stomping on it. He brings Henry over to the ropes and cannonballs on his leg and distracts the referee whilst Eddie puts more pressure on the ankle from outside. Chavo gets in more kicks to the leg before Eddie tags back in. He hits the tope con hilo on the leg. He starts to twist Henry's knee but a chop from Henry releases the hold. Mark Henry counters an irish whip and hits a powerslam on Eddie but he can't capitalize. Eddie dropkicks him in the knee before tagging out. Chavo runs off the ropes, dropkick to the ribs of Mark Henry before he goes back to the knee, Eddie gets the tag as the fans tell him that he sucks. He draws Rikishi into the ring so Henry can't tag out, then he and Chavo drag Henry back. They stop the tag a second time and Rikishi knocks them both down with right hands, The referee brings him out of the ring, allowing Chavo to run in with a chair for a shot to Henry's injured knee. Eddie Guerrero locks in the Lasso from El Paso and Mark Henry as to tap out.
WINNERS: LOS GUERREROES
This was a pretty good match to kick off the tournament. There was a basic formula and strategy, the bigger babyfaces against smaller heels is a dynamic I struggle with sometimes but they made it work here.– As a match it's * but personally I'd rate it 2.5/10
