Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary for this match. Vickie Guerrero is out on the ramp, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas before the “Excuse me!” catchphrase. That's nice of her,.she introduces Dolph Ziggler, who's defending the United States championship first. Michael Cole buries Ryder during his entrance, Zack Ryder has beaten Dolph Ziggler recently in non-title matches.

Dolph Ziggler trips Ryder to start as the fans are quickly behind Ryder. Dolph trips him again and Cole disparages the fans for ignoring Ziggler's skills in the first 30 seconds. They lock up and Zack Ryder takes Ziggler over, Ryder gets an arm drag and Ziggler takes a break in the corner. Ryder charges into a back elbow. Dolph Ziggler slows it down with a headlock, he's sent off the ropes but takes Ryder down with a shoulder tackle, Ziggler goes over and leapfrogs Ryder, Zack Ryder with a leapfrog of his own but Ziggler blocks the hip toss, Ziggler sends Ryder into the ropes but Zack Ryder catches a dropkick, Ziggler drops to the mat and is catapulted into the corner. A running clothesline by Ryder sends Dolph Ziggler out of the ring, where Vickie waits. Zack Ryder picks up some speed and somersaults over the top rope onto Ziggler. Dolph Ziggler's head meets the canvas and they both get to their feet on the apron. Dolph Ziggler cuts Ryder off and hits a DDT on the apron, rolling into the ring. The referee keeps counting Zack Ryder out as Cole compares Ziggler to Ryder, putting over Ziggler. Zack Ryder gets into the ring just before 10. The fans chant for Ryder again as we see a replay of the DDT, Dolph Ziggler is stomping on Zack Ryder and hits him with a neckbreaker.
Dolph Ziggler hits a series of elbow drops before taunting, he lines up Ryder for a jumping elbow drop across the back of the neck and covers, 1, 2, 2½! Ryder kicks out. Zack Ryder blocks Ziggler's right hands, hitting him with some of his own but is kicked in the gut. Ziggler sends him off the ropes and runs Zack Ryder down with a back elbow before working a chinlock. Zack Ryder gets to his feet but Ziggler slams him to the mat, then pauses for some crunches before covering. Ryder kicks out at 2, Dolph Ziggler traps Ryder's arm and goes back to a chinlock, keeping his weight over Zack Ryder as the crowd tries to will him on and commentary talks about internet things. Zack Ryder gets to his feet and breaks out of the headlock, he sends Ziggler into the corner but runs into a back elbow, Dolph Ziggler hits an Angle Slam on Ryder for a nearfall. Dolph Ziggler perches Ryder on the top turnbuckle, but Zack Ryder knocks him back and gets some space, he hits a missile dropkick from the middle rope and covers but only gets 2. Dolph Ziggler runs into a back elbow, Ryder ducks a clothesline by Ziggler and knocks him down by charging into him. Zack Ryder hits a facebuster, Ziggler gets to his feet in the corner and Ryder runs at him with a forearm in the corner. Ziggler slumps down and is hit with the Broski Boot! Zack Ryder covers 1, 2, Vickie Guerrero puts Ziggler's foot on the rope! The referee ejects Vickie Guerrero from ringside since it was right in front of his face.
Zack Ryder tries to roll up Dolph Ziggler and they exchange nearfalls. Dolph Ziggler slides under the bottom rope, Ryder tries to reach him but his neck is snapped off the top rope. Ziggler tries a Zig-Zag (Fameasser) but Ryder moves out of the way, he rolls Ziggler up 1, 2 no! Ziggler hits the Zig-Zag! Ryder kicks out at 2½! Dolph Ziggler jumps onto Ryder's back with the Sleeperhold but Ryder fights him off, Zack Ryder runs into a dropkick! They both finally get to their feet, Dolph Ziggler is on the top rope but Ryder crotches him, Zack Ryder climbs up to meet Ziggler and hits a super hurricanrana! Zack Ryder covers but still only gets a nearfall. Ryder waits for Ziggler to get to his feet, tries a Ruff Ryder but it's countered and he hits the corner, Dolph Ziggler rolls him up but Ryder kicks out at 2. The fans chant for Ryder as the referee starts counting them both down, Ryder is on his feet in the corner, Dolph Ziggler charges across the ring but Ryder gets his knees up. He hits the Ruff Ryder on Ziggler and covers 1, 2, 3!
WINNER: ZACK RYDER
This was a hot opener. Both of these guys can have a good match with time and were able to tell a nice story. It was back and forth with enough hope for Ryder (and his organic crowd support and popularity) to keep him in the match so the result was in doubt. They both “got their shit in” as the saying goes and they kept the crowd's attention for every second. Vickie's ejection got a big reaction.– As a match it's *** but personally, I'd rate it 6.25/10
