JBL makes his way to the ring first with Jillian Hall. This match stems from Bradshaw interrupting Matt's interview on the previous episode of Smackdown where a brawl broke out. Back to this night, JBL has the mic. He puts himself over before mocking Matt's recent love triangle. Matt Hardy's music plays, cutting JBL off after too long. Michael Cole and Tazz are on commentary for this match.
JOHN “BRADSHAW” LAYFIELD VS. MATT HARDY
WWE Armageddon 2005 (18th December 2005)
Matt Hardy jumps JBL from behind, kickstarting the match.JBL is knocked out of the ring, Matt Hardy hits an ax handle from the apron to the floor and hammers away. He sends JBL's spine into the apron. He takes it back in the ring, but John “Bradshaw” Layfield cuts him off with a knee to the gut. He sends Hardy over the top rope and he gets hung up in the ropes! JBL lays in right hands and boots. The referee tries to free Matt but JBL pulls on his ankles for more pressure, using the 5-count. Matt finally drops to the arena floor, JBL brings him up and hits a short-arm clothesline before breaking the referee's count. He clubs Hardy across the back and brings it back into the ring. Cole talks about JBL's WWE title reign last year as he lays in right hands in the corner. Matt gets one back but is knocked down by another right. JBL stomps Matt and hits multiple elbow drops. He hits another clubbing blow and a boot. Matt Hardy is brought to his feet, he slides out of a slam attempt and hits a DDT. Hardy crawls over for the cover and JBL kicks out at 2. JBL runs through Matt with a shoulder tackle as they get to their feet.
Matt's busted open as JBL kicks him in the back and knocks him down with a running boot to the face. JBL hits more right hands, Matt fights back but is slapped across the face. JBL sends Matt into the turnbuckle, more right hands before he sets Hardy up on the top rope. Matt Hardy elbows his way out of danger, knocking JBL down, he hits a moonsault! 1, 2, no! The referee checks on Matt as JBL removes the turnbuckle pad. Matt Hardy gets some hopeful shots in on JBL, swinging lefts and rights but gets cut off with a poke to the eye. JBL sends Matt Hardy into the corner with the exposed turnbuckle, he hits a clothesline in the corner, Matt stumbles out into a Clothesline From Hell. He covers for the 3.
WINNER: JOHN “BRADSHAW” LAYFIELD
This was just an extended squash for JBL. Matt Hardy got a few hope spots in but the whole match was an excuse to mock him on pay-per-view. It was reluctantly enjoyable personally, but it never needed to happen. – As a match it's * but personally I'd rate it 2.5/10
