HULK HOGAN (C) VS. UNDERTAKER

Before the match, Mean Gene Okerlund is on the stage near the entranceway. He introduces Jake Roberts who Gorilla Monsoon didn't know was in the building. Bobby Heenan says Jake will never be trusted again, referencing his new theme tune. He faces Randy Savage in 2 days at This Tuesday in Texas. He claims the snake wasn't supposed to bite Savage and it was devenomised. I'm not going to keep describing the promo as I can't give it justice when Jake's on the mic. All that needs to be said is that he still seemed menacing with his choice of jumper. We're taken to Monsoon and Heenan on commentary before the buildup to “The Gravest Challenge” is shown. Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan faced off on Superstars 2 weeks ago on Paul Bearer's funeral parlor segment, including some pathetic attempts at pixelating the WCW World Championship belt. The Undertaker enters first with Paul Bearer, there's a casket at ringside with Hulk Hogan stickers on, which can't be a good sign for the champion. Hulk Hogan makes his way down and shoves it over, moving it awkwardly in the space available. He tries to throw his bandana at Undertaker but it goes over his shoulder.

The bell rings and Hulk Hogan circles Undertaker. They lock up and Taker shoves Hogan all the way back to the corner, Undertaker charges but hits the corner and shows no after-affects. Gorilla Monsoon says no one is impervious to pain, it'll catch up to Undertaker eventually. Hulk Hogan gets a headlock, working it for a while before getting sent off the ropes. He ducks a right hand but runs into a shoulder tackle, bailing to the floor for a breather. Monsoon and Heenan bicker on commentary in the down-time before Hogan climbs back in the ring and walks into a choke. Undertaker forces Hogan into the corner in the chokehold. Undertaker uses strikes to the throat and rakes at Hogan's face. Another shot to the throat sends Hogan down to his knees. Hogan is choked against the top rope as Heenan mentions how little offense the champion's got in this match so far. To be fair, neither has Taker; just chokes and strikes. Undertaker stalks the referee across the ring giving Bearer opportunity to choke Hogan from ringside.

UNDERTAKER SLAMS HOGAN! It wouldn't be a big moment, but it's new offense in the match. He misses an elbow drop that gets more airtime than 2000-2014 WWE Divas. Hogan hits “roundhouse” rights according to Monsoon, Undertaker is sent off the ropes, Hogan collides into him with a clothesline but Taker doesn't budge. Hogan picks up Undertaker but gets clubbed in the back, so big Face Hulk Hogan rakes at Undertaker's eyes and softens him up with right hands. Bobby Heenan is screaming about the death of Hulk-a-mania as Undertaker is sent off the ropes into an elbow and again doesn't move. Hogan tries chopping at Undertaker with more face rakes. Undertaker's head is sent into the turnbuckles. Hogan backs Taker into the ropes and sends him over the top rope to the floor with a clothesline, but Undertaker lands on his feet. He pulls Hogan to ringside by the ankle. Another throat strike and Hogan is sent into the ring steps. His head was about a foot away, but it must have hurt his fingertips.

Undertaker chokes Hulk Hogan with a cord at ringside before they take it back in the ring. Undertaker stomps Hogan and goes back to the choke. The referee reminds him of the rules as Paul Bearer chokes Hogan from ringside making as much noise as possible.

Brain: “My monitor keeps kicking in and out”

Gorilla: I'll kick you in and out in a minute!”

Undertaker strikes Hogan in the throat and chokes him over the middle rope. A fan dressed as Hogan tries to get the crowd behind the man himself and it seems to pick up some steam in a pretty cool moment. Undertaker covers Hogan's face with his hand, which wears Hogan down and forces him down to the mat for a series of nearfalls. Hogan seems to have passed out and the arm drops twice, but he comes alive on the third attempt. He removes the claw hold and kicks Undertaker in the midsection before the obligatory rake to the face.

Hulk Hogan hits the ropes, Undertaker staggers back a couple of steps from the shoulder tackle. Hogan hits another shoulder tackle sending Undertaker back into the ropes, but Taker uses that momentum to hit a flying clothesline on Hogan! Undertaker hits a Tombstone piledriver on Hogan and by the time Monsoon can explain that everyone stays down, Hulk Hogan is back to his feet along with the majority of the crowd. He hits Undertaker with a series of right hands, finally dropping him to one knee. Hulk Hogan celebrates like he's won every award known to man. Undertaker is back to his feet, Hogan rakes the eyes and signals that he's going to slam Undertaker as Ric Flair makes his way to the ring. Hulk Hogan slams Undertaker, he's tripped by Paul Bearer as he goes for the leg drop, finally noticing Flair. He decks Flair at ringside, then sends Undertaker off the ropes into a big boot. Paul Bearer holds on to Hogan's ankle and is brought up to the apron. Undertaker sits up, he strikes Hogan in the throat, saving his manager. Ric Flair slides a chair in the ring and Undertaker hits a Tombstone in the general vicinity for his first WWF Championship.

WINNER: UNDERTAKER (NEW WWF Champion)

For historic purposes, looking at Undertaker's career, this is a must-watch. But it's not going to be the most exciting 12 minutes of your day. Undertaker's offense was limited and Hogan wasn't known for keeping his act fresh week in and week out. The crowd were really into it at the time though, proving less really can be more.– As a match it's * but personally I'd rate it 1.5/10
