THE MILLION DOLLAR TEAM VS. THE DREAM TEAM
WWF Survivor Series 1990 (22nd November 1990)
The bell rings and The Million Dollar team have no problem leaving Undertaker to start the match with Bret Hart. Taker goes right on the attack, Bret ducks a clothesline but is caught by the throat and choked to the ground. Undertaker carries on chokes, breaking to not get disqualified. Jim Neidhart tags in, but a running shhoulder block goes unnoticed by Undertaker before he scoop slams Neidhart. Koko B Ware gets the tag, but his own momentum sends him throat first across the top rope. Undertaker hits his first ever Tombstone piledriver and Koko's near the ropes so the cover looks awkward. Well, you can't win them all. Koko is the first elimination.
Bret Hart is back in, he locks up with Undertaker and gets in some right hands, he gets some momentum from the ropes for another shot but it doesn't phase him. Greg Valentine is tagged in, as is Dusty Rhodes. Valentine takes Rhodes to the corner and chops, but Dusty fires back with overhands and a bionic elbow. Jim Neidhart gets the tag and hammers away at Valentine's shoulder before tagging out to Bret. Don't want to get too gassed. Bret sends Valentine's head into the turnbuckle. An irish whip sends him across the ring but Valentine gets the knee up as Bret charges. Honky Tonk Man gets the tag and Rhythm and Blues double-team Bret in their corner. Honky Tonk kicks Bret's shoulder but The Hitman makes a comeback with the least convincing shoulder block ever. Honky Tonk Man turns it back around with a knee lift but Bret gets the blind tag to Anvil, who hits a delayed powerslam on Honky Tonk Man to eliminate him. Ted DiBiase gets his hands dirty for the first time in the match, attacking Anvil, but is sent into the corner. DiBiase is knocked down with a clothesline and a slam by Jim Neidhart.
The Captains face off! Ted DiBiase realises, Rhodes is legal and backs himself into the corner for 10 bionic elbows as Dusty's on the middle rope. DiBiase is sent off the ropes into a dropkick because why not? Jim Neidhart gets the tag again and helps Dusty with a back elbow before covering DiBiase for a nearfall. A suplex gets Neidhart another nearfall, DiBiase tries to fight back but is taken down with a shoulder block. Virgil trips Neidhart from outside and he walks into a clothesline by DiBiase to send him to the showers. Bret Hart replaces his partner, immediately attacking DiBiase, who begs off at the first chance. Bret sends his head into the turnbuckle, then Dusty's elbow, bringing The American Dream in. DiBiase swings the momentum with an eye rake and and elbow to the back of the neck. He sends Dusty off the ropes into a clothesline and tags out to Undertaker, who gets an unneccessary amount of height for a stomp. Dusty Rhodes is knocked back into his own corner and he tags out to Bret, who is choked out in the heels corner. Valentine does a quick shift with more attacks in the corner before DiBiase comes back in.
Bret Hart starts fighting out of the corner and hits an inverted atomic drop before tagging Rhodes in. Dusty Rhodes chops DiBiase as Bret holds him, then a series of bionic elbows brings DiBiase to his own side. Undertaker gets the tag and sends Dusty off the ropes into a leg kick. He hits a double axe handle off the top rope and eliminates Dusty Rhodes before dumping him over the top rope. Greg Valentine tags in as Brother Love attacks Dusty on the floor. Dusty Rhodes grabs hold of Brother Love leading to Undertaker attacking Dusty on the walkway and being counted out. Greg Valentine and Bret Hart are legal in the ring and as we get back to the match, Valentine has the advantage. He calls for the Figure Four, but Bret counters with a small package to eliminate Valentine. Ted DiBiase and Bret Hart are the respective team members left. They trade punched and Bret sends DiBiase over to the floor with an atomic drop, following himself with a slingshot body press. Bret with the ground and pound, but DiBiase rakes the eyes. Ted DiBiase is sent shoulder first into the ring post. His head meets the steps and we go back in the ring.
Ted DiBiase tries to beg off but gets stomped in the midsection, they wrestle to the corner, Bret hits European uppercuts but is sent across the ring and hits the turnbuckles chest first. Ted DiBiase covers and gets a nearfall. Ted DiBiase chops Bret in the corner and sends him across the ring but ducks early. He's caught in a backslide for a nearfall, Bret Hart brings it back to their feet in a headlock and gets sent off the ropes, DiBiase goes prone and trips Bret. He feins blowing out his knee but rolls DiBiase up for a nearfall that the crowd lost their shit for. He goes for Virgil but gets caught, Virgil holds Bret and the referee just starts to count, shouldn't that be instant DQ? Bret moves out of the way of the knee lift and rolls DiBiase up but only gets another nearfall. A backbreaker and elbow drop from the middle rope get him another. Ted DiBiase reverses an irish whip but Bret ducks the clothesline. He hits a crossbody but DiBiase rolls through for the 3 count. Becoming the Sole Survivor for his team and giving us the timeless moment of Bret sitting up and saying “fuck”
WINNER: THE MILLION DOLLAR TEAM (Ted DiBiase)
This was a good match. Classic Survivor Series matches aren't easy for me to rate as it's a series of mini-stories and the quick eliminations that sometimes occur make some of those too short to matter. The moments of Undertaker's debut and Bret's ironman performance future meme boost this one a bit, DiBiase did all he could to avoid Rhodes, Undertaker was in there to look dominant and there was no other way to get him out of the match, maybe a chokehold disqualification if I was to be incredibly picky.– [**¾] match but personally 6/10
