SHELTON BENJAMIN (C) VS. CHRISTIAN

This match immediately follows an awkward heavy breathing session between Heidenreich and Gene Snitsky, who were feuding with Undertaker and Kane respectively. Jerry “The King” Lawler then thanks The Exies for tonight's theme song, “ugly”. I'll leave it at that, he's on commentary with good ol' JR Christian enters with his bodyguard, Tyson Tomko. He just started using Waterproof Blonde's “Just close your eyes” JR mentions that Tomko lost to Shelton Benjamin last week so King mentions Tomko recently had knee surgery. He won the title at Taboo Tuesday, being voted in as one of 7 choices by the fans.

WWE Survivor Series 2004 (14th November 2004)

Christian confers with Tyson Tomko before getting in the ring, stalling before they lock up. Shelton gets control of the arm, bringing Christian into a hammerlock but it's reversed. Christian trips Benjamin, but Benjamin's amateur background leaves Christian scrambling to the ropes. Shelton Benjamin reverses a waistlock and takes Christian down, leaving him to use the ropes to break it again. Christian kicks Benjamin in the gut so they don't lock up again, getting an arm wringer and shoves Benjamin down. Shelton Benjamin kips back up again, reversing it and pulling Christian into a headlock but gets sent over the ropes. Christian goes prone, leapfrogs and then Benjamin ducks a clothesline attempt and knocks Christian down with a shoulder block. Christian decides to taunt the champion but gets decked, Shelton Benjamin bashes Christian's head into the mat and JR says he should be given a warning, always the straight-laced guy. Christian reverses an irish whip and helps Benjamin over the top rope, then checks with the referee that it's not Bill Watts rules anymore. Shelton Benjamin skins the cat and Christian runs into a back elbow. Shelton Benjamin hits a springboard clothesline for a nearfall.

Shelton kicks at Christian in the corner but gets cut off with a knee to the gut and his head meets the turnbuckle. Overhand chops by Christian as he tells the champ that he's Captain Charisma and he sends Benjamin across the ring. Shelton Benjamin lands on his feet from the monkey flip and sends a charging Christian into the air, leaving him to freefall. Shelton Benjamin rolls him up for another 2 count. Christian is sent off the ropes, but escapes the ring before Benjamin can hit him with the superkick, Shelton Benjamin follows but Tomko cuts him off, allowing Christian to sneak attack him from behind. Shelton Benjamin sends Christian back into the ring but Tomko grabs him by the ankle, Shelton kicks him away and runs across the apron towards him but Christian sends him into the barricade. Christian takes it back into the ring, attacking Benjamin and choking him in front of the referee. He sends Shelton Benjamin off the ropes but is hit with a running crossbody for another nearfall. Christian springs up into a neckbreaker for a nearfall and rakes at Benjamin's face before moving into a chinlock. Shelton Benjamin gets to his feet and breaks free of the chinlock but gets sent through the ropes. Christian distracts the referee as Tomko drives Benjamin into the ring apron, then throws him in the ring for a nearfall.

Shelton Benjamin fights to his feet, backing Christian into the corner but gets dropped with an inverted tornado DDT and gets a nearfall, which he isn't happy with. Christian chokes him over the middle rope, leading to another conversation with the referee. He trash talks Benjamin and slaps him in the face, but Benjamin fights back, sending Christian into the turnbuckles the Canadian way. They're slow to get to their feet, Benjamin knocks Christian down with clotheslines and ducks one from Christian, coming back with a forearm strike as we see a replay of the turnbuckle caving in Christian's chest. A Russian legsweep gets Benjamin another nearfall and Christian begs off to the ropes, he's brought back to the middle of the ring with an alley-oop, Shelton Benjamin flips over into a jackknife cover for another nearfall. Christian cuts him off with right hands but Benjamin gets in inverted slingshot suplex, or “reverse fisherman suplex” as JR calls it, I'm pretty sure that isn't possible though. Benjamin doesn't think it's possible he only got 2, but it is and the match goes on. Christian's head hits the turnbuckle but he moves out of the way of the Stinger splash. Christian hits an elevated DDT and covers but Benjamin gets his shoulder up at 2.999

Tyson Tomko throws the belt into the ring and distracts the referee but Christian runs into Shelton Benjamin's boot. As a side note, Hebner was simultaneously a pro and a moron when the belt hit his foot and he no-sells it. Shelton Benjamin hits a flying clothesline on Christian and gets a really close nearfall. The referee takes the title back over to the timekeeper as Tomko sneaks in the ring, booting Benjamin in the face. Christian covers and gets a nearfall. Shelton Benjamin tries a T-Bone suplex but Christian shoves him off, into Tomko. Benjamin tries to kick Tomko but his foot is caught, Tomko spins him around and gets kicked as he goes 360. Shelton Benjamin hits another T-Bone suplex for the win.

WINNER: SHELTON BENJAMIN (STILL WWE Intercontinental Champion)

I really liked this match, Shelton Benjamin had a really good run in 2004 elevating himself on Raw, he took on a veteran and his assistance without much hassle and speaking of, Tomko didn't interfere enough to make it annoying but his presence had a purpose and he stuck to it. Benjamin being able to school Christian at the start was a nice touch and Christian's cockiness whilst he was at a disadvantage was perfect character work, Tyson Tomko's running boot looked terrible before the replay though..– As a match it's **½, but personally, I'd rate it 2.75/10
