Mr. Hughes is shown in the ring with Harvey Whippleman
before Mr. Perfect's entrance. He also holds the urn he stole from
Undertaker. Bobby “The Brain Heenan is in his element on
commentary, mocking his former client during his entrance. Think the
opposite of Ric Flair in the 1992 Royal Rumble. Jim Ross and “Macho
Man” Randy Savage join him in the booth.
MR.
HUGHES VS. MR. PERFECT
WWF
King of the Ring 1993 ( June 1993)
The bell rings
and Mr. Perfect is hesitant to lock up as JR mentions he gives up
100lbs to Hughes. They lock up and Perfect is sent into the corner.
They lock up again, with Perfect being sent into another corner then
Hughes runs the ropes, Perfect goes prone, lets Hughes go back over
then catches him with an arm drag. Mr Hughes has to collide his torso
with the ropes so he doesn't slide out of the ring. Mr Perfect
reverses an irish whip, leapfrogging Hughes and hitting a dropkick,
backing Mr Hughes into the ropes. JR just shrugs off Heenan taking
credit for Perfect's career as Mr Hughes hits a right hand in the
corner, knocking Perfect out to the floor. Mr Hughes helps Perfect
back into the ring as Perfect tries to fight back. Mr Hughes clubs
him across the back and keeps him on the mat with a neck crank. Mr
Perfect fights to his feet but runs into a big boot. Randy Savage
says he should have gone for a pin there, instead he brings Perfect
up to his feet and sends him into the ropes. Mr Perfect bounces back
into what looked like the inspiration for Randy Orton's clotheslines.
Mr Hughes goes back to the neck crank on the mat but Perfect uses the
tie to get back to his feet. Mr Hughes pulls the hair and sends Mr
Perfect corner to corner. Mr Perfect does the strangest flip bump I
remember out of the corner. Bret Hart is shown in a split-screen
asking who he wants to face in the next round as Mr Hughes sends
Perfect into the turnbuckles. Bret says he'd prefer to face Perfect
as the man himself starts to get momentum back. Mr Hughes messes up a
spinebuster and they fall to the mat together and exchange rights. Mr
Hughes chokes Mr Perfect over the middle rope but as he picks up
speed to squash him, Perfect moves. Mr Perfect chops at Mr Hughes and
sends him across the ring into a hip toss. Mr Hughes runs into a back
body drop and I swear he leaves his feet a good 3 steps early. Mr
Perfect snapmares Hughes over into the neck snap and brings it to the
corner. Mr Perfect goes at Hughes with rights and chops but the
referee backs him off, in that time Mr Hughes grabs Undertaker's urn
and hits Mr Perfect over the head with it for the disqualification.
WINNER: MR PERFECT
This was the first Mr Hughes match I ever saw. He
didn't impress me that day, with no change in repeat viewings.
Nothing seemed to flow, he had no timing and really dragged the match
down. Mr Perfect did what he could but at least they kept it short
and simple.– WORKRATE: 2/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 1/5 OVERALL 3/10
