After qualifying for the King of the Ring tournament,
Razor Ramon was injured and gave his friend Savio Vega a chance to
qualify for the tournament and joining him at ringside. He was given
a last minute qualifying match against IRS who would be accompanied
to the ring by Ted DiBiase. Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix are on
commentary for this match. Stephanie Wiand introduces us to that
match, added to the Collesium home video and WWE Network versions of
this show. IRS is just entering the ring as we get to ringside. Savio
Vega gets his full entrance. Dok Hendrix explains that if the winner
of this match wants to win the tournament they need to beat 4
opponents in 3 hours.
IRWIN
R SCHYSTER VS. SAVIO VEGA (King of the Ring qualifier)
WWF
King of the Ring Pre-Show 1995 (25th June 1995)
The bell rings as McMahon
reminds us their first opponent will also be Yokozuna. IRS goes on
the attack with rights, but a slam attempt is countered into a small
package by Savio Vega for an early nearfall.
Savio Vega runs off the ropes
with a sunset flip for another nearfall, but Irwin R. Schyster lays in
the boots, quick to his feet. Savio Vega is backed into the corner
then sent across the ring. IRS charges but hits the corner, Vega
rolls him up for 2. Savio Vega grabs the side headlock and takes IRS
down, IRS rolls Vega's shoulders down but can only get 2. IRS gets it
back to their feet and sends Savio Vega off the ropes. Savio Vega
gets the best of the shoulder block and goes prone, he counters a hip
toss with one of his own and hits a dropkick for another nearfall.
Vince McMahon blames Vega not getting a decent cover. Savio Vega goes
back to the headlock as Hendrix asks about if Million Dollar
Corporation members end up facing in the final (IRS and Karma) but
Vince doesn't know. We miss seeing IRS dump Vega out of the ring as
we focus on the Spanish announce team. Razor Ramon keeps DiBiase at
bay on the outside, IRS takes his time before bringing it back into
the ring. IRS slams Savio Vega and climbs to the top rope, but lands
on Savio Vega's boot. Savio Vega fires up with right hands, backing
IRS into the ropes. IRS is sent across the ring into a back elbow, a
suplex gets Savio Vega another nearfall.
IRS is sent off the ropes, holding on and sliding out to the floor. He tries to walk
out of the match, but Vega brings him back in. IRS takes advantage
with boots as Vega slides back in the ring. Savio Vega reverses an
irish whip and hits a spinning heel kick for the win.
WINNER: SAVIO VEGA
This was a decent match to warm the crowd up before
the main show. IRS is one of my least favourite wrestlers of this
era. Savio Vega had some fire in this match, with the Razor Ramon
connection giving fans a reason to care instantly. Savio Vega tried
getting the win every chance he got, which made sense with the format
of the match.– WORKRATE: 2.75/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2.75/5 OVERALL
