Abyss is going into the TNA Hall of Fame this weekend for Bound for Glory, I thought I would review one of his past Bound for Glory matches and this one came up. Rob Van Dam was the TNA World Heavyweight champion, Abyss attacked him backstage during one of his unstable characters turns, claiming “THEY” told him to do it and “THEY” would be here at Bound for Glory. Abyss enters the match first carrying the attempted murder weapon named Janice, a 2x4 with nails hammered through it. Abyss lovingly places Janice on the commentary desk in front of Mike Tenay and Taz. Abyss grabs the microphone and says “THEY” will take over tonight, beginning with ending RVD. Rob Van Dam interrupts the promo to walk down for his match so we still have no more ideas about “THEY”
ABYSS VS. ROB VAN DAM (MONSTERS' BALL)
TNA Bound for Glory 2010 (10th October 2010)
Rob Van Dam enters the ring and catches Abyss with a spinning kick to start the match, the second kick drops Abyss in the corner. RVD follows with rights before kicking and choking Abyss in the corner with his boots. The fans chant for RVD as he dropkicks Abyss and he positions Abyss so he's hanging off the apron. Rob Van Dam chokes Abyss with the boot and hits a slingshot legdrop. RVD grabs a chair from ringside and climbs on the top rope. A diving thrust kick sends Abyss back into the corner so RVD dropkicks the chair into Abyss' face. RVD goes back to the top turnbuckle but Abyss rolls out of the ring. RVD drops down to the apron and hits a moonsault from the middle rope on the other side of the ring. RVD brings a barbed wire board into the ring and cuts Abyss off at the apron. RVD runs into a back elbow from Abyss. Abyss moves the board and signals for the chokeslam but RVD elbows his way free. Rob Van Dam runs into a scoop slam but slides out the back and sends Abyss into the barbed wire with a bulldog! Rob Van Dam signals for the rolling thunder but Abyss is able to free himself from the barbed wire and roll out of the way, sending RVD into the barbed wire and then out of the ring!
Abyss bridges a table between the ring apron and the guardrail as Mike Tenay calls Abyss rolling off the barbed wire “showing his quickness” I call it common sense. Abyss grabs a trash can, walking over to RVD and bouncing it off his head. He bridges another barbed wire board between the apron and the ring post as Rob Van Dam looks out on his feet. RVD starts trading right hands with Abyss and Abyss knees him in the midsection before taking it back in the ring. RVD cuts Abyss off at the apron again but Abyss knocks him back with a headbutt. Abyss tries to suplex RVD through the table but RVD lands on the apron, Abyss grabs RVD by the throat but kicks to the head block the chokeslam. Abyss clotheslines RVD back into the ring but RVD is quick to his feet. Abyss is dazed with kicks by RVD and is positioned on the table, considering I heard it crack as RVD landed on the suplex, this could be risky. Rob Van Dam sends Abyss through the table with a rolling thunder over the top rope!
They eventually get back in the ring and Abyss has the chair. RVD ducks a chairshot and the Van Daminator sends the chair back into Abyss' face. Rob Van Dam sets Abyss up for the Van Terminator in the corner but plays to the crowd, allowing Abyss back to his feet to throw the chair at Rob Van Dam. RVD falls from the top turnbuckle through the barbed wire bridge! Abyss drags RVD from the wreckage and in a funny moment Taz says the impact damaged the chair, but then realises it's open. Abyss takes it back in the ring and he stands the other barbed wire board up in the corner of the ring. Abyss taunts RVD to get up and lifts him onto one shoulder. Rob Van Dam drops down and sends Abyss into the barbed wire board. Rob Van Dam sandwiches Abyss between the corner and the barbed wire and hits a Van Terminator! Rob Van Dam climbs to the top turnbuckle but Abyss rolls out of the way of the Five Star Frog Splash, all the way out to the floor and retrieves Janice from the announce desk. Rob Van Dam ducks the weapon shot and throws a chair into Abyss' face. RVD notices Janice and drives it into Abyss' ribs. Abyss turns around into a kick and Rob Van Dam finishes it with a Five Star Frog Splash
WINNER: ROB VAN DAM
This match was decent enough, RVD got to play his
hits and Abyss was able to use violence in the Monster's Ball match
he created. Nothing substantial though and nothing worth RVD dropping
the title for, they could have put anyone in this spot. – WORKRATE:
