As a side note before I start, to add more to this I am going to go back to 5 a week. Using my Lucha Underground and NXT TakeOver Specials to fill in the days. With the way those events work it would be more difficult getting around to them otherwise.
Today marks the 33rd Anniversary of Miss Elizabeth's WWF debut. The segment was taped on this date to air on the 24th August Prime Time Wrestling show. The first feud she would be involved with Savage in revolved around her, with George “The Animal” Steele showing her some affection. This pleased Macho Man as much as you would expect, leading him to defending the prestigious Intercontinental title against the man at Wrestlemania 2. You've gotta love wrestling logic. George Steele is already in the ring as we go back to The Fink, with Susan St. James and Vince McMahon on commentary for this match. Oh joy. Susan doesn't like the way Savage treats Elizabeth, as the lady herself leads Savage to the ring. McMahon and St. James comments how lovely she looks, but she is helped by the look of the security guards if I'm honest. They play a pre-taped interview with Savage as he's now in the ring, preparing for the match. Miss Elizabeth leaves the ring and the match starts.
RANDY SAVAGE VS. GEORGE STEELE (WWF Intercontinental Championship)
WWF Wrestlemania 2 (7th April 1986)
Randy Savage throws jabs at Steele keeping his distance, Steele is able to chase him out to the floor. Savage gives his headband to Liz because that's all he really went out there for. Savage is able to avoid Steele, going back out to the floor again. Savage gets back in and they circle, but he bails to the floor a third time before contact is made. George Steele chases Savage in and out of the ring. Steele catches up to Savage and grabs his ankle, George Steele bites Macho's ankle! I'm not sure how good that would truly be with thick boots on but OK. Savage leaps back in the ring when Steele releases, sending him into the corner with a jumping knee strike. George Steele grabs Savage, lifting him in a chokebomb, but dropping before the disqualification. Steele decks Savage as he gets to his feet and goes to talk to his opponent's valet. Rule #6 in “How to be a shit opponent” as Savage proves by forcing Steele back into the ring and tying his legs up in the ropes. Savage stomps at Steele who's defenseless and the referee ignores a choke due to having to free George Steele. Randy Savage boots Steele in the ribs and climbs to the top rope. Randy Savage barely hits a cross body, almost turning it into an axe handle due to Steele being all the way across the ring, it finally looks like a cover and Steele throws Savage out of the ring through the ropes to kick out.
Elizabeth goes to check on Savage on the floor, which I don't blame her for as that looked rough. I've also just noticed how close some of the crowd are, there's no room for a barrier. Steele goes back on the attack as Savage gets back in the ring, knocking him back into the corner before dumping him out to the floor on the other side. Savage crawls under the ring, George Steele looks for him on the floor, asking Elizabeth, but she ain't no snitch, allowing Savage to knock Steele into the ropes with a knee strike. George Steele is sent across the ring but he bites Savage's arm as Savage goes for a sleeper. Randy Savage tries to escape by pulling the bald man's hair... Smart. He gets sent into the corner but rakes at Steele's eyes. Savage grabs a bouquet of flowers from ringside, McMahon says they're from a fan to Elizabeth. Savage slaps Steele across the face with it. E-C-BUD! E-C-BUD! E-C-BUD. Steele bites at Savage again and sends him into the turnbuckle. Steele has the flowers and he tries to ram them down Macho Man's throat before beating him over the head with it and disappointing Susan St. James. George Steele sends Savage into the turnbuckles, then bites the padding out of a different turnbuckle. Savage attacks from behind but ends up eating the turnbuckle padding. Steele goes back for more padding, keeping Savage subdued on the mat and forcing him to roll out to the floor.
The Animal follows, chasing Savage around ringside until he gets distracted by Elizabeth. Savage hits Steele from behind with an axe handle from the top rope to the floor and takes it back into the ring. Randy Savage slams Steele with a struggle and climbs to the top, hitting the Elbow Drop. Savage covers but Steele kicks out at 2! That woke the crowd up for a second, Steele goes right for Savage's face, sending him into the turnbuckle with a handful of hair. George Steele stomps on Savage as he's slumped in the corner until the referee backs him off. Savage is unsteady on his feet, but he trips Steele with a double leg takedown and pins his shoulders down, using the ropes for leverage. 1, 2, 3.
WINNER: RANDY SAVAGE (STILL WWF Intercontinental Chammpion)
George Steele was supposed to be the babyface here but a majority of his offense here was illegal. Randy Savage was a good chickenshit heel picking his spots and letting George Steele distract himself the whole match. Savage still couldn't put him away so he had to resort to bending the rules, but can't be vilified too much for it. It wasn't a great match but who was really expecting it to be. It worked enough to turn this few months program into one lasting a couple of years. – WORKRATE: 1.5/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 1.5/5 Overall: 3/10
Randy Savage leaves with Elizabeth. George Steele stands in the corner and finally chases the referee to the back.
