JERRY LAWLER VS. TAZZ

The cameras pan the crowd as the show starts, Paul Heyman walks out to the ring to a loud ovation. He calls this the resurrection of ECW, continuing Tuesday night on SyFy and gets a thank you chant. He thanks the fans and says it's all because of them before finishing up calling the rebirth of ECW better than Raw and Smackdown. This leads us to the opening video.

We finally hear Joey Styles' voice on commentary. One thing ECW really excelled at as a feature was his silence during promos to let the talent tell the story. Tazz enters first to represent ECW. Joey Styles says that Tazz and Lawler have had issues for weeks but truly this has been bubbling under the surface since ECW was in business. Jerry Lawler has the Raw graphic to show his name, he stands at the entranceway and looks over to Styles before knocking the glasses off his face. Jerry Lawler walks to the ring, with the cheap heat in the arena keeping him toasty.

JERRY LAWLER VS. TAZZ

ECW One Night Stand 2006 (11th June 2006)

Jerry Lawler's straps go down as the bell rings, but Joey Styles jumps on his back! Jerry Lawler throws Styles down and lifts him for a piledriver but Tazz chokes Lawler out with the kata ha jima! The fans roar and count along with the referee as Lawler's arm drops to the mat and he passes out.

WINNER: TAZZ

Well, that happened. It's definitely a quick and easy way to get the crowd warmed up (and an easy review for me, to be honest). Although Tazz appeared at ECW One Night Stand 2005 he was used as a surprise, this year he was used to give ECW a victory over one of it's biggest detractors. It wasn't much but the fans were really crazy for it and I can see the significance in the moment. I'd have preferred it to have been on the WWE vs. ECW show on free television though. – WORKRATE: 1/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2/5 OVERALL 3/10

I feel like I cheated using this match, although these matches need throwing in the hat too.

TRIVIA NOTES:

- Tazz went 2-1 in their career pay-per-view trilogy (Summerslam 2000 & Unforgiven 2000)
