TYLER BREEZE VS. JUSHIN LIGER

The beauty of a British Bank Holiday is the fact it seems to mentally stretch the week for all of us. So instead of giving myself a deadline of yesterday, I decided to post this match today. As mentioned during the last review the matches both have a Japanese influence, this time it features a Japanese puroseu legend in his only match under the WWE umbrella to date.

Commentary is handled by Rich Brennan who welcomes us, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton. Tyler Breeze makes his entrance first, but a bunch of models dressed in a New York theme are out before him. Commentary use his entrance to welcome us to the Barclays Centre, Jushin Thunder Liger makes his WWE debut (and to the date of writing only appearance) as Corey Graves welcomes him to NXT. Byron Saxton summarises Liger's accomplishments, not only in Japan but all over the world. The crowd's reaction is actually disappointingly tame. Tyler Breeze is dressed like a Gladiator, where Liger has a leopard print chest piece for his cape, unique attires tonight.

TYLER BREEZE VS. JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER
NXT TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN - 22nd August 2015

Jushin Liger rallies the crowd behind him, I'm inclined to think the arena's having a good portion of the sound escape, but I don't want to be saying that just because it's Liger. Tyler Breeze deserves a mention here, proving it by locking up with the Japanese legend. Tyler Breeze has been asking for more competition, so General Manager William Regal scoured the world, bringing Liger here. Liger sends Breeze into the ropes but gets knocked down, Breeze waits for Liger laid across the corner. Jushin Liger ends up in another headlock, he sends Breeze across the ring again, catching him in a drop toe hold and dropping the elbow across Breeze's back. Jushin Liger lays across the rope, which him and the crowd are all pleased with. Tyler Breeze is the only one in the arena not happy with it but he gets tripped. Breeze gets tied up in a modified surfboard, trapping his arms. Liger leans Breeze back, stretching his spine but keeping his own shoulders off the mat. Tyler Breeze is on his knees, he finds room to move to his feet and escapes the hold stomping Liger's midsection.

Jushin Liger applies another surfboard in the middle of the ring, releasing Breeze before he finds a way to counter. Tyler Breeze makes it to his feet in the corner, a monkey flip sends him across the ring. He over-rotates and faceplants the floor as Liger takes an interest in Breeze's selfie stick. The referee shouts at him as if he wants to use it as a weapon, just let the man have fun! He throws Breeze back his possession and chops at Breeze's chest. Tyler Breeze escapes a Liger bomb attempt as the referee takes the selfie stick away from the action, Jushin Liger has Breeze ready for a back suplex but Breeze rakes his eyes. SuperModel kick gets Tyler Breeze a nearfall. We see a replay as Breeze tries to get Liger to his feet, Byron Saxton mentions Breeze has only won one of his 3 TakeOver matches, with Graves telling him a win over Liger will mean that's all null and void.

Liger is on his feet in the corner, Tyler Breeze boots him in the gut, telling the referee not to touch him as he's backed away. Tyler Breeze snapmares Liger out of the corner and hits a leg drop for a one count. Breeze keeps Liger in a front facelock on the mat, but Liger makes it to his feet, escaping with help from some palm strikes, Tyler Breeze counters an irish whip, not letting go of Liger to hit a double-knee backbreaker! Tyler Breeze covers but it still only gets him a nearfall. We get a replay of the innovative move as Tyler Breeze makes sure the referee's doing his job correctly. He talks some smack to Liger, hits a standing knee drop and covers again, but Liger kicks out at 1. Tyler Breeze goes back to the front facelock on the mat, keeping Liger grounded as the fans try to will him to his feet. The power of the people finally overcomes Breeze, Liger is back to a standing position and he throws Breeze across the ring to break the hold. Jushin Liger waits for Breeze in the corner, thankful of the time to think and breathe.

Tyler Breeze brings Liger over with a cruicifix, but Liger gets his shoulder off the mat at 2. Tyler Breeze is letting his frustration get the better of him, going after Liger in the corner with kicks to the gut. The referee backs him off, bringing out the “don't touch me” complaints again, Liger is able to cover up from the right hands, Breeze's attention is more on the referee's hands-on approach giving Liger the opportunity for a running palm strike known as the Shotei. Tyler Breeze rolls to the floor as Liger leaves to the apron, Jushin Liger gets into position, dropping Breeze on the floor with a running somersault plancha!

Jushin Liger throws Breeze into the ring at the count of 5, immediately following. Tyler Breeze avoids a Liger bomb attempt getting caught with another Shotei, he can't get out of the third Liger bomb attempt, nor can he get he shoulder off the mat before the referee's three count.

WINNER: JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER

Anyone looking for an addition to their “best of Jushin Liger” matchlisting will be severely disappointed, but seeing Liger in a WWE ring was a moment in and of itself. He gave Breeze a lot during the match, then sent the fans home happy with his greatest hits. A great way to start this event. WORKRATE: 2.75/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2.5/5 OVERALL: 5.25/10

Jushin Liger celebrates his victory as we see highlights of the match, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and X-Pac are shown in the crowd.
