The Lucha Underground band play us into The Temple where Matt Striker and Vampiro welcome us. Vampiro's hyping the crowd from the commentary table as Striker announces another Vampsclusive, this week with Konnan and Prince Puma. Matt Striker takes us to the ring as Mil Muertes makes his way to the ring with Catrina. Vampiro pretty much calls Muertes whipped, but due to the size difference, he finds a respectful way to say it. Both commentators wonder if a more aggressive Muertes is possible and agree that if it is, we'll see it as Muertes lost his opportunity at the Lucha Underground championship at Aztec Warfare, where he entered #20. He faces Fenix tonight, who Matt calls the epitome of New Age Lucha.
MIL MUERTES VS. FENIX
Lucha Underground Season 1, Episode 12 "The Man They Call Cage"
Aired 28th January 2015
Mil Muertes charges at the bell, running into the corner and getting rolled up for a quick 1 count. Matt Striker comments on how well these two have gotten to know each other in the few months of Lucha Underground as Fenix catches a kick and chops at Muertes' chest, Mil Muertes is sent across the ring, Fenix follows with a running boot. He got so much momentum he had to go out to the apron. Fenix runs across the ring with a double knee strike in the corner but Muertes is staying on his feet. Fenix picks up speed a third time, colliding his jaw with Muertes' fist. Fenix rises again, not giving the fight up just yet and makes a beeline for Mil Muertes but gets sent overhead into the corner. Mil Muertes hits a DDT and covers but Fenix kicks out at 2. Mil Muertes jabs Fenix in the jaw sending him back into the ropes but ducks too early for the back body drop. Fenix knocks Muertes back to create space for a handspring back off the ropes but gets caught midair in a waistlock and gets sent across the ring with a german suplex in one swift movement by Muertes, Mil Muertes covers but only gets a nearfall.
Mil Muertes drags Fenix to his feet, Fenix avoids hitting the corner, swinging around the ropes but Muertes catches Fenix's legs and brings him back into the ring. Mil Muertes waits patiently for Fenix to get to his feet before a Dagger in the Heart connects. 1, 2, no Fenix isn't staying down to a spear! Mil Muertes starts showing his frustrations, placing Fenix on the top rope before sending him across the ring. Mil Muertes covers, only getting 2 so Vampiro gets to talk about the importance of hooking your opponent's leg when you try to pin them. Fenix is brought back to the corner by the throat, unable to protect himself from Muertes' combination of right hands, Fenix slumps into the corner but isn't given a second to rest before Muertes sits him on the top turnbuckle, Mil Muertes follows and hits a superplex all the way down to the mat, Fenix ties Mil Muertes up with a cradle to steal the win.
WINNER: FENIX
Ehhh, I'm not a fan of flash victories, there wasn't even really a comeback Fenix just trapped Muertes' legs at the right time. Mil Muertes got to look vicious and Fenix was able to endure it all and get the win, that's all there was to it, it was a nice little opener though. WORKRATE: 2/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2/5 OVERALL: 4/10
