THE CREW VS. PIMPELINA ESCARLITA & MASCARITA SAGRADA

The rest of this week will be filled with matches from Season 1 - Episode 11 of Lucha Underground, titled "Last Luchadore Standing". We begin with highlights of the match last week between Drago and King Cuerno (here) before Vampiro and Matt Striker welcome us back to The Temple. The Crew are already in the ring to be introduced, represented by Cortez Castro and Mr Cisco, Melissa Santos forgets the "Mr" and gets not so politely reminded, Bael is in their corner for this match.

Pimpelina Escarlita and Mascarita Sagrada are a popular makeshift team, as shown by the crowd's reaction to their entrances. Pimpelina gets cosy with Rick Knoxx before the match.

MATCH 1: THE CREW VS. PIMPELINA ESCARLITA & MASCARITA SAGRADA

Pimpelina starts with Mr Cisco, Cisco attacks at the bell Vampiro calls The Crew “Gangbangers” which Striker asks him not to say with Pimpelina in the ring. That actually made me laugh out loud, good on you Striker. Cisco holds Pimpelina in a full nelson as Castro chops the chest, Pimpelina blocks a right hand and breaks free from Cisco, leapfrogging him and climbing the ropes slowly then coming back in the ring with an arm drag to Cortez and headscissors to Cisco. Cortez goes to the floor as Cisco catches Pimpelina in a belly to belly, but Pimpelina manoeuvres out as Big Ryck is shown making his way to ringside. He sits on the steps, clearly bemused by the match as Cisco gets the tag. He collides with the corner on a missed running dropkick attempt so Pimpelina works him over in the corner. Cisco is sent corner to corner but avoids a splash. Cisco finds his mark with a running forearm in the corner. Cortez Castro hits a kick to Pimpelina's head from the apron, putting her in position for a facewash by Cisco's boot and he uses the momentum to slide through the ropes!

Bael enters the ring to hit a running dropkick behind the referee's back before Cisco gets back in the ring and covers for a 2 count. Castro gets the tag, kicking Pimpelina in the gut and striking her in the corner. He takes Pimpelina over with a gutwrench suplex, again covering and only getting two before tagging back out to Mr Cisco. Mr Cisco hits a weak looking curb stomp on Pimpelina, making up for it with a leg drop across the back of her head and a running back senton for 2. Castro gets another quick tag, Pimpelina tries to fight out of the corner but the numbers game catches up. Bael gets in a shot from ringside as Castro drags the referee away, then goes back to suplex Pimpelina for 2. Vampiro says The Crew are just trying to hurt Pimpelina even though they try and cover after every move, although it fits them more. Pimpelina gets sent across the ring, climbing to the middle rope to stop her momentum and simply shoves her arse in Castro's face as he charges. Quite simple to call, but Vampiro apparently has trouble doing so. It's not the most conventional move but it's enough for the tag to Mascarita Sagrada.

Mr Cisco also got the tag on the other side and ends up almost having a return ticket, getting sent across the ring with a flying hurricanrana. Mascarita Sagrada hits a tilt-a-whirl DDT and moves out of the way so an interfering Castro elbow drops his partner. Mascarita Sagrada hits Castro with a running dropkick but is levelled by a Cisco big boot. Vampiro calls it the Mafia Kick and he's delighted at Sagrada getting beheaded. Mascarita Sagrada is sent across the ring but ducks a double clothesline, diving through the ropes onto Bael with a cannonball to the floor. Pimpelina's now legal, Lucha rules dictate that no tag is needed, but they get decked. Pimpelina comes back with a double arm drag sending Castro out to the floor. An attempted kiss to Cisco is enough to make him bail and regroup with his team. Pimpelina slowly scales the ropes and dives to the floor taking out all three members of The Crew with a splash to the floor. Sagrada brings Cisco back in the ring as Pimpelina takes in the crowd. Castro gets the blind tag as Cisco reverses an irish whip, Sagrada runs into a flapjack by Cisco with Castro assisting with a Codebreaker! Cisco holds Pimpelina back as Cortez Castro pins Sagrada for the win.

WINNERS: THE CREW

In the “Lucha Underground Universe” this match worked, the crowd were really into it and the face team are two of the most popular wrestlers on the show. They got some decent stuff in but the right team won in the end. I just don't “get” Pimpelina Escarlita, I don't particularly like the gimmick, the rope work is slow and the whole act takes me out of the match. Although the rest of the participants I thoroughly enjoy. WORKRATE: 2/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2/5 OVERALL: 4/10

Big Ryck enters the ring, not happy with his men. His (now former) crew ambush him and leave him laying in the ring. During the commercial break, Ryck is sent to the Medical Facility, with Castro, Cisco and Bael heading to Dario Cueto's office for payment of their services. Dario Cueto says he'll dig deeper in the pockets the more they assist him, but that's where all the small change is from personal experience...I guess figures of speech are never meant to make sense.
