KEVIN OWENS © VS. SAMI ZAYN (NXT Championship)
NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable (20th May 2015)
Kevin Owens bails right to the floor as the bell rings. The referee begins to count him out so he begins walking back up the ring steps. The fans are chanting more for Cena here than they have in about 5 years during his own matches. Owens drops to the floor at ringside, still getting counted out. Sami Zayn helps his old buddy, breaking the count. Then attacks him at ringside. Kevin Owens tries to fight back, but Sami beats him for a lap around the ring, Owens rolls inside and takes a cheap shot at Sami as he follows. The fans chant “Ole” for Sami early on. Kevin Owens gets more rights in the corner but Sami reverses an irish whip. Owens holds on to the top rope so Sami charges, with a weak clothesline sending Owens over to the floor with wrestling magic. Kevin Owens boots Zayn in the gut but Sami escapes an apron powerbomb attempt with a back body drop. Corey Graves was just saying that it's worth every risk, that tested his opinion. Sami Zayn starts punching Owens and forgets to stop, Owens is slumped against the ring steps so Zayn carries on punching, sending Owens over to the floor. Sami follows as Kevin Owens gets to his feet and throws him in the ring.
Kevin Owens turns the momentum around with punches to Zayn's gut, fighting to his feet and clubbing Zayn on the back. Sami gets dumped outside but he trips the champion and drags him to the floor, Sami Zayn sends Owens into the ring steps. Owens is sent across ringside into another set, this time he tumbles over them into the barricade. Sami Zayn uses Owens to break the referee's count at 7, then brings him right back out again. A right hand by Zayn sends Owens into the crowd and Zayn has to follow behind the referee's back.Zayn beats Owens further into the crowd but Owens cuts him off. Sami Zayn grabs a handrail to stop himself getting powerbombed on the concrete and boots his way free. Zayn makes some distance between them, so Owens charges. Kevin Owens gets sent back over the barricade to ringside, landing on a steel chair in seated position. They get back in the ring barely beating the referee's count. Sami Zayn hits a Blue Thunder Bomb! 1, 2, Owens gets his shoulder up. Kevin Owens begs off as the crowd chants for another, Zayn catches up but Owens is in the ropes. Kevin Owens elbows Zayn from a waistlock but Sami isn't releasing. He drops Owens with a half-dragon suplex for another close nearfall. Sami Zayn hits Owens with an overhand chop but a tornado DDT from the top rope gets countered at the last second. Kevin Owens notices Zayn is set up for a cannonball but Zayn dodges it. Sami Zayn hits an Xploder suplex into the corner!
Sami Zayn takes his place in the opposite corner but the Helluva Kick doesn't connect as Owens bails to the floor. Sami leaves the ring and catches Owens' clothesline, Kevin Owens eats another Xploder on the floor. Sami Zayn charges at Kevin Owens but straight into a pop-up powerbomb onto the apron! The referees come out to check on Sami's vitals as the fans chat holy shit. Owens keeps beating on Zayn as a doctor eventually comes out, he leans Zayn against the steps and Zayn doesn't crumble, so I think he's fine. Owens beats him down against the steps, just interfering in the EMTs job. He drags Sami back into the ring and to his feet. William Regal appears in the ring, trying to keep Owens away from Zayn, he pulls at Owens' face but Owens hits him with a headbutt! William Regal rolls out of the ring as we hear unfamiliar music, Kevin Owens has a chair with him in the ring, and the championship belt, SAMOA JOE makes his NXT debut! Kevin Owens looks visibly shook as Joe enters the ring. They go nose to nose as the fans chant holy shit. Owens backs himself out of the ring before telling Samoa Joe it's Owens' house. The fans chant for Joe as we see a replay of the apron powerbomb.
WINNER: KEVIN OWENS (STILL NXT CHAMPION)
I never heard a bell but I'd presume the “match” ended when Owens went to retrieve his belt and the chair. It was the usual amazing effort between these two friends, not pulling punches and making Owens' powerbomb look deadly. Kevin Owens hasn't won a TakeOver match by pinfall or submission yet, which is pretty crazy if you think about it. It adds to the danger of Owens. Just as I thought there would be no logical ending to the segment Kevin Owens (the champion) is scared away by a debutant.WORKRATE: 3.25/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 3.75/5 OVERALL: 7/10
