KING CUERNO VS. SUPER FLY

LUCHA UNDERGROUND: SEASON 1 EPISODE 7
Top of the Ladder” Aired: 7th December 2014

The opening video shows Sexy Star isn't finished with Chavo Guerrero Jr. and hypes tonight's 3-way ladder main event. Danny Trejo is shown in the audience before Matt Striker and Vampiro welcome us to The Temple on commentary, swiftly moving us to our first match. King Cuerno enters first as Striker mentions he has issues with Drago, however, he's facing a different opponent tonight in Super Fly. Vampiro introduces him as a guy that's been making big moves in Mexico over the last 4-6 years.

MATCH 1: KING CUERNO VS. SUPER FLY

They circle and Cuerno knocks down Super Fly with a clothesline. Cuerno stomps Super Fly on the mat as Matt Striker says he's part of an illustrious 4-man team of high fliers in Mexico (I believe he means “Real Fuerza Aerea who disbanded the year before, but Lucha is worked around stables so much it's hard for me to keep up.) Super Fly tries to fight back, but Cuerno keeps him on the ropes with forearms. Cuerno sends Super Fly across the ring, sending him high into the air with a back body drop. Drago is seen perched on Dario Cueto's office, like the way Cuerno watched him two weeks ago. Super Fly is sent across the ring again, this time Cuerno goes prone, knocking him down with a dropkick. Cuerno stalks Super Fly to his feet and knocks him down again with a running elbow shot to the head for a nearfall. Super Fly gets sick of being beaten up and sends Cuerno to the mat with a flying headscissors after being sent to the ropes one too many times.

King Cuerno gets to his feet in the corner, he catches Super Fly's attempt at a kick and sweeps his leg, easily getting out of the corner. He hits a standing dropkick to Super Fly and still hasn't noticed Drago watching. The camera keeps going to an overhead view showing tonight's main event briefcase dangling from the rafters. King Cuerno sends Super Fly off the ropes but Super Fly is able to handspring back, he avoids Cuerno with a nice sequence, ending in Cuerno getting taken down with a lucha arm drag as Striker sucks up to Vampiro on commentary. Super Fly body checks Cuerno before running across the ring, he uses the 619 movement to go in-and-out, Cuerno decides to escape the ring and slow the match back down. Super Fly likes the pace where it is, diving over the top rope with a cartwheel moonsault on to Cuerno! Super Fly gets Cuerno back in the ring as the fans chant in appreciation for the new Luchador.

Cuerno avoids a german suplex, sending Super Fly into the ropes. Cuerno meets him with a flying double knee. Cuerno waits for Super Fly to get to his feet, knocking him down with a clothesline. The Cradle Shock gets a new name as “The Big Game” as Cuerno stares out Drago from the top of the office. (If that's Drago's real tongue, his wife must be a happy woman, if not... I wonder if he can take it home when she's mad?) Cuerno covers Super Fly for the win.

WINNER: KING CUERNO

So Striker tells us that Cuerno hasn't noticed Drago all match, then when Drago references him at the end he knew he was there the whole time? That and Striker's general work aside (I'm quite the irritable person, so it's not all his fault) the match was very nice, Super Fly got to show off some of his work and the fans enjoyed seeing him bounce around the ring, I hope we get to see more of him in the future, and this promotion is making me want to look up more Lucha in general too. WORKRATE: 3/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 3.5/5 OVERALL: 6.5/10
