BIG RYCK VS. PRINCE PUMA

Carrying on with Lucha Underground now, we see our first real gimmick-type match. The title of the episode, a Boyle Heights Street Fight! Annoyingly that means ending my week with the first match of the next episode. Big Ryck and Puma walk in a sinister way backstage, ready for their scrap before commercial. As we return Melissa Santos goes through the (lack of) rules before Big Ryck makes his entrance, he has Cortez Castro and Mr Cisco weilding chairs and accompanying him. PrincePuma makes his way out, he was the one that originally wanted this match, he comes out with no assistance for this match. Vampiro handles commentary with Matt Striker there to keep him company.

BIG RYCK VS. PRINCE PUMA (BOYLE HEIGHTS STREET FIGHT)

The fans are firmly behind Prince Puma at the start, as would be expected. Matt Striker asks Vampiro on commentary about his experience in these no disqualification type matches as Big Ryck grabs Puma by the throat. Vampiro says to swing for the fences and Puma heeds his advice, swinging at Ryck with rights and lefts before a big knee to the gut sends Puma down. Puma tries to escape Ryck's grip but gets knocked back down with a forearm. Puma fights from below with kicks by the ropes but Ryck drives his knee into Puma, keeping him at bay. He forces his knee into Puma's head on the mat as he mocks the fans. Puma makes it to his feet in the corner, Ryck pummels him with another forearm before sending him across the ring with force. Puma tries to kick at Ryck from the mat so Ryck brings him away from the ropes before bringing him to his feet and sending him into the corner. Puma is able to avoid the charge and trips Ryck face first into the middle turnbuckle. Mr Cisco enters the match but is quickly disposed of. Cortez Castro is feeling left out, but he's sent back to the outside with a springboard arm drag. Cisco is sent packing with a flying hurricanrana, moving the match back to one on one for the time being.

Ryck charges at Puma, who makes a beeline for the corner, he tries to float over Ryck but lands on his shoulder, Puma counters into a DDT and kips up, diving out on to all three guys! Puma is back in the ring, and Cisco's the first victim to his feet, Matt Striker puts over his tenacity. He makes his way to the apron but a right hand by Puma knocks him down. Puma turns around and gets turned inside out with a lariat by Big Ryck. Ryck drops his elbow into Puma and pummels him with right hands on the mat. Ryck sends Puma across the ring, running into him with a back elbow. Castro Cortez is busted open at ringside as Puma shoves Ryck's foot off his chest. Puma tries to fight to his feet but Ryck sends him down with a knee. Ryck kicks at Puma on the mat, Puma kicks back from the floor but gets choked in the corner before Mr Cisco throws a trash can in for Ryck, almost hitting the referee. Ryck wedges it between the ropes and sends Puma back first into it as Matt Striker calls it an innovation of violence. Vampiro gets the Tommy Dreamer reference. Mr Cisco grabs a chair from under the ring, and Cortez has a singapore cane. Ryck takes a seat as his cronies send Puma across the ring, lifting him in the air and dropping him to the mat. Ryck tells the referee to ask Puma if he wants to quit as the three of them slap and kick him about on the mat.

Prince Puma lands on his feet from a back suplex attempt, hitting a DDT on Cisco and a flatliner on Cortez. Puma dropkicks Ryck back into the corner out of his chair. Prince Puma makes his way to his feet using the ropes, but Castro is on his feet with a kendo stick, Puma ducks the swing and hits an enziguri. He grabs the kendo stick, swinging for Mr Cisco and hitting a kendo-assisted lungblower. Puma hits Ryck over the back with the kendo stick but it has no effect! Ryck grabs another swing of the kendo stick, Puma tries to pull it back but Ryck's too strong, he pulls Puma into a short-arm clothesline. Cisco and Cortez grab a ladder from under the ring and lean it in the corner. Big Ryck brings Puma to his feet and throws him into the ladder. Big Ryck grabs some more plunder as Cortez and Cisco beat down Puma, he brings in a table before Cisco and Cortez set him up in the Tree of Woe using the ladder, they hold his arms out, exiting to ringside. But there's Johnny Mundo! He dives into the ring and ducks under a kendo stick shot, knocking Ryck down with a springboard kick! Cisco and Cortez are sent packing before Mundo frees Puma and grabs the ladder, dropping it on Cortez Castro and Mr Cisco at ringside.

Mundo takes Ryck down with a spear and peppers him with rights. Mundo grabs the chair, waiting for Ryck to get to his feet. Mundo swings but Ryck ducks and Puma gets laid out! Cisco and Cortez hit Mundo with a flapjack into a Codebreaker. Big Ryck sets up a table in the middle of the ring, sending Prince Puma through it with a chokeslam.

WINNER: BIG RYCK

I don't think Lucha Underground could make Ryck and his crew look stronger if they tried. Prince Puma got a good fight in but the 3 on 1 (eventually 3 on 2) advantage didn't let up. Mundo came out to help his buddy even though Konnan doesn't want them involved with each other, and I'll be interested to see where this goes. Hopefully not too many weeks of Ryck's boys standing tall, that can get tiresome quickly. WORKRATE: 2.25/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 3/5 OVERALL: 5.25/10

EPISODE 5 SUMMARY: This was another very good episode, it introduced a new character, carried on all of the main stories and keeps everything moving along nicely sprinkling in throwbacks so the stories don't feel disjointed. It's a show I look forward to every week and they've not disappointed me yet. I think I've found a new addiction. OVERALL 7/10
