After the break we see Dario Cueto paying off Big Ryck in his office to put Johnny Mundo in the hospital. Matt Striker and Vampiro then give us a look at Prince Puma, already one of Lucha Underground's most popular stars. One man looking to take that spot is the first man entering for the triple threat main event tonight, Drago. He is making his United States debut. As Pentagon Jr enters Vampiro mentions that Lucha Libre commonly has a light and a dark side, for each character. Pentagon is the dark side of Octagon. However, that works. Fenix enters The Temple for the first time and Matt Striker really shits the bed, deciding to instead mention that all of the Luchadores have VISAs. Gee, thanks. Then he goes over triple threat rules for the new fans. The fans at The Temple chant “This is Lucha” with the three men in the ring as we go to our final commercial break. Ensuring no one at home misses this main event.
MATCH 3: PENTAGON JR VS. DRAGO VS. FENIX
They really milk returning to the ring before the bell goes, and it starts quickly with Fenix catching a superkick attempt from Pentagon Jr and superkicks Drago out to the floor. Pentagon catches Fenix off guard sending him out too. Pentagon feels lonely and joins them on the floor with a no-hands suicide Swanton. Vampiro says it's evidently every man for himself. Pentagon tries to fly again but is met with a pendulum kick from Fenix, and a dropkick from Drago on the apron, Drago sends Fenix back into the ropes with another superkick, but Fenix sends Drago over the top rope, Drago hits a twisting plancha on Pentagon JR on the outside! Fenix climbs to the top rope not to be out-done and hits a twisting plancha from the top rope to the floor. Vampiro says that was 875 degrees rotation and I'll take his word for it. Drago slowly crawls to the ring, Fenix is in there to meet him.
They each avoid a kick before Drago kicks Fenix in the chin, Drago goes nowhere on an irish whip attempt and sweeps Fenix's heel to take him down. Fenix goes prone and allows Drago to pick up some speed, but falls victim to a crazy tilt-a-whirl DDT. This brings in Pentagon Jr who hits Drago with a slingblade. Fenix is taking some time out on the apron as Drago avoids a kick by Pentagon, but he can't avoid a superkick which sends him out of the ring. Fenix takes it to Pentagon as Matt Striker says you can enjoy any style of wrestling you want during a Lucha Underground show. Wasn't that Dario Cueto's point earlier? They should be more Lucha so they brought these guys in? Fuck you, Striker. Anyway, Fenix shows great Lucha skill and acrobatics with an arm drag sending Pentagon across the ring. The fans are going nuts for this match and I don't blame them so far. Drago grabs Fenix's ankle from ringside, as Matt Striker makes a reference to Fenix's tattoo which he blatantly has no idea about. Pentagon charges Fenix and drops to his knee to avoid a clothesline. Fenix picks up a hell of a lot of speed in a short space and Pentagon lifts him in the air. FENIX FLIPS ALL THE WAY OVER AND BACK WITH A HURRICANRANA!
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK WAS THAT!? Pentagon escapes the ring to try and figure out that same question in frustration as Drago enters. He hits a quick succession of kicks to Fenix's chest and plants him with a FLIP DDT! Just, what? I need to watch more Lucha, this stuff's nuts. Pentagon decides he can return and blocks a right hand by Drago, hitting a modified Michinoku Driver but Drago quickly kicks out. Fenix ducks a clothesline and handsprings back at Pentagon Jr with a cutter! All three men are down as everyone watching and participating in this match appreciates some time to catch their breath. Pentagon and Fenix are up at 7. Pentagon sends Fenix across the ring but is sent overhead, landing on the apron. Drago charges Fenix in the corner, and lands on the top rope but he's quickly crotched and hung in the Tree of Woe. Pentagon Jr and Fenix both fight climbing to the top rope. Fenix takes a hard slap to the chops but comes back with a jumping super hurricanra! Drago falls from the turnbuckle and gets to his feet. He climbs on Fenix's shoulders, ending up in a wheelbarrow. He tries to roll Fenix through with a cover, but Fenix rolls back. Drago kicks out sending Fenix backwards into a lungblower from Pentagon Jr!
Fenix not only retreats to ringside, but he goes back up the entranceway which Matt Striker calls “The Walk of Faith”. Drago tries to bring Fenix back to the ring as he and Pentagon Jr will the crowd on in the ring. Drago charges at Pentagon Jr with a forearm, and a second one in the middle of the ring. Hitting him with all he's got but not budging Pentagon much. Pentagon ducks the third attempt and an overhand chop decks Drago. Pentagon sets Drago up against the ropes and silences the crowd before hitting another overhand chop to Drago's chest. Drago is sent across the ring but uses his speed to send Pentagon out of the ring with an arm drag. Drago flies out of the ring with a running suicide twisting plancha! Fenix is on top of Dario Cueto's office and Vampiro estimates it's 30 feet from the floor. He takes out both guys with a corkscrew plancha to the floor!
Matt Striker asks if Fenix put too much on the line with that dive, and Vampiro simply says “yeah” these guys have their moments. Fenix and Drago are first in the ring but Pentagon Jr is able to join them before anything happens since they're so banged up. Fenix charges at Drago in the corner but misses, sending his own shoulder into the ring post. Pentagon Jr is ready for Drago with a kick to the gut and hits him with a Package Piledriver, he sends Drago into Fenix for a sitout tombstone piledriver! Pentagon is caught with a kick from Fenix, all teamwork in these matches is temporary. Fenix gets to his feet, leaps on Pentagon Jr's shoulders, slapping his head before taking him down with a reverse hurricanrana for the win!
WINNER: FENIX
The first bulk of this match was good. All three guys were advertised as the best Lucha Libre has to offer, and they went out there to prove it. Matt Striker actually made the match feel important, almost making up for earlier in the night, but for a school teacher he should really read up on projects he's taking on more. In fact, he should do that as a man but anyway... Up until Fenix mocking Pentagon, this was an insane Lucha style match. – WR 3.75/5 PE 4/5 OVR 7.75/10
Fenix celebrates in the ring with Vampiro giving him a well-deserved standing ovation and Striker signs out. The show ends with Cueto pacing some kind of cell. He has a crazed look in his eyes, he says he won't be intimidated by Johnny Mundo. Then a shadow moves with an eerie grunt.
EPISODE 3 SUMMARY: We were introduced to 5 new members of the roster, the main stories were continued and the show was a blast. We also set up the main event for last week with the last segment offering some kind of surprise, and it doesn't look a nice one. All in this was another in a string of successful shows for Lucha Underground. It's consistent with quality and the hour passes before you know it. They really use the cinematic segments between matches really well to further stories and add to the show, keeping everything flowing at a decent pace. I'll rate it 8.6/10
