The Big Show recently took a trade to Smackdown after feeling unappreciated on Raw, so being new he got a monster push instantly targeting the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. Lesnar had his ribs injured during the short feud and Big Show's basically had his number. With Paul Heyman even doubting his client in his defence tonight. It's also only a month after his championship defence against The Undertaker at No Mercy inside the Hell in a Cell. Before the match Eric Bischoff is talking to Johnathon Coachman about the Elimination Chamber making history tonight. Big Show interupts to tell Bischoff that he made a mistake in letting Big Show move brands. He'll prove that tonight when he becomes the new WWE Champion. We then cut to Brock Lesnar warming up. Paul Heyman approaches Brock looking concerned. Paul admits to Lesnar that he's nervous. Brock hasn't been the same since the Hell in a Cell and now he has to face Big Show with a broken rib before putting over New York City since he's from there. Face Lesnar and Heyman is a weird sight.
Michael Cole and Tazz are on commentary for this match. A video package goes over Big Show taking out Undertaker and going on a path of destruction. Big Show has had Lesnar's number for most of the month but Brock's started fighting back. It's done well in making the match seem as important as it is. Big Show enters first with an injured arm from Lesnar attacking him last week on Smackdown. Paul Heyman reluctently follows his agent out through the best entrance stage ever. Brock was the youngest world champion in WWE history but he has to ask himself if he can lift Show for an F-5 or suplex, before the bigger issue of if he can actually beat him to retain the championship.
BROCK LESNAR © VS. THE BIG SHOW (WWE Championship)
WWE Survivor Series (17th November 2002)
They go nose to nose in the ring. Brock shoves Big Show before locking up, Big Show shoves Brock but the champion stands his ground, not backing up. The MSG fans are behind Lesnar as they lock up again. Big Show again sends Brock back a few steps. Brock Lesnar decides to go for it a third time, now he's worn Big Show down, and gets backed into a corner. Big Show tosses Lesnar across the ring with a hip toss. Lesnar lands right on his injured ribs, using the corner already to stand up. Big Show takes some time to pander to the crowd and gets taken down with an explosive spear! Lesnar peppers him with rights on the mat, so Big Show slides out of the ring. Lesnar follows him and keeps hitting him with strikes. Lesnar tries to send Big Show into the ring post but can't. Big Show picks Lesnar up and drives him back and ribs first into a ring post instead!
Big Show sends Lesnar into the ring, but that gives Lesnar time to elbow at Big Show, catching a bit of breath with his injured ribs. Brock is able to string together a nice offence of strikes but Big Show catches him around the throat. Lesnar notices it's the injured arm and escapes the hold. He brings Big Show down with a side suplex and the giant lands on his injured arm. Big Show uses the corner to get up as Tazz mentions that the suplex will have hurt Lesnar's ribs too. Lesnar drives his shoulder into Big Show's ribs but can't send him across the ring. Lesnar gets sent into the corner, but avoids a charge by Big Show. Even when Brock has the advantage Heyman looks nervous for him. BROCK GERMAN SUPLEXES SHOW OUT OF THE CORNER! Brock tries to pick Show up for the F-5 but it's too early. Big Show uses knees to the ribs to escape it and clubs Lesnar over the back. Big Show sends Lesnar across the ring but Lesnar avoids a big boot and sends the referee out of the ring. Brock Lesnar sends Big Show overhead with a belly to belly suplex!
Paul Heyman throws a chair to Lesnar who at this point in undefeated. Big Show is able to grab Brock by the throat but even a giant keels to a low blow. Big Show punches the chair on the first swing, but the second one connects straight to his skull. Brock has Big Show on his shoulders and brings him down with an F-5 just as a referee starts running down! 1, 2, Heyman pulls the referee out of the ring! Heyman decks the referee and Brock quickly realises what's gone on. Heyman has an instant look of regret as he locks eyes with Brock Lesnar. Lesnar chases Heyman around the ring, but runs into a steel chair directly to his ribs. Big Show floors Lesnar with a chair shot to the back before chokeslamming him on the chair and clearing the ring. Paul Heyman revives the first referee who counts the three on Brock Lesnar's first ever defeat.
WINNER: The Big Show (NEW WWE Champion)
This is one way to reintroduce someone to a crowd. The Big Show got to look dominant in a short match, with any momentum Lesnar built quickly being switched. As a story it worked to get sympathy for Brock (seriously, how do you have sympathy for someone that size?) and Heyman turned on his client for the easy money in his home town. I'd consider that an underrated heel turn in WWE history to be honest with you. As a match it wasn't much, but it told a basic story, the crowd were behind Lesnar and Big Show looked pretty badass. – WORKRATE: 3.5/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 3.5/5 OVERALL7 /10
