HULK HOGAN (C) VS. STING

From what I've researched for this review, this match was built out of respect between the two. Both men are seen as fan favourites for the match. Sting had an interview earlier in the night telling Lex Luger not to get involved tonight....  Tony Schiovane, Mike Tenay and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan are on commentary. Before the match, we get a video recap. Lex Luger doesn't trust Hogan and has been warning Sting against him, Hogan's trying to earn Sting's trust, and it all kicks off in the dressing rooms, with Sting getting attacked. Michael Buffer crams in some last-minute building up of the match before the challenger makes his entrance. As Hulk Hogan gets to the top of the entranceway Tony Schiovane reminds us this is Hogan's 6th WCW Championship reign. Michael Buffer makes sure to put over both competitors during their entrance. Bret Hart comes out with a running commentary from Michael Buffer to wish both men luck before the match.

HULK HOGAN © VS. STING (WCW CHAMPIONSHIP)
WCW Fall Brawl (12th September 1999)

They do some laps of the ring, and Hogan's bandana is sent into the crowd before they lock up. They jockey for position in a collar-elbow tie-up, moving around the ring before the Referee Nick Patrick has to break them apart, Hogan shoves Sting for not breaking cleanly. There's more stalling before Hogan tries to recreate the Fingerpoke of Doom. STING NO SELLS IT! Sting swipes Hogan's hand away, Hogan with surprising agility rolls Sting up, but Sting grabs the bottom rope immediately. They go back to the collar-elbow tie-up and Hogan wrenches Sting's arm. Sting wrenches back and adds a second rotation, before twisting Hogan's arm into a hammerlock. Hogan reverses the hammerlock but Sting gets it back again. Hogan's bored of that so takes Sting down with a drop toe hold, he doesn't hold the ankle instead just transitioning to a crossface on the mat. WCW's phantom rope-break rule gets Sting free from the hold. Hogan wants a test of strength but quickly changes his mind to another collar-elbow before stepping into a side headlock on Sting. Sting counters with a hammerlock but Hogan gets the ropes.

Hogan offers some fans a go in the ring before tying up with Sting again. Hogan uses the element of surprise to back Sting into the corner. Hogan knees at Sting's ribs before going upstairs with right hands and chops. Sting is sent across the ring, met by Hogan with a clothesline. Hogan slams Sting in the middle of the ring and hits him with a pair of elbow drops for a nearfall.Hogan backs away from Sting as they get to their feet, but it makes no difference as Sting slams Hogan and hits a leaping elbow drop for a nearfall of his own. They go for the test of strength, and lock it in this time. Hogan has a slight advantage, and knees Sting in the gut. Sting tries to return the favour but Hogan grabs control of his arm before hitting him with a straight right hand. Hogan drives his elbow into Sting's shoulder and hits him with a suplex. Hulk Hogan thinks it's over and the crowd are on their feet. Hulk Hogan turns around and sees why. STING STOOD STRAIGHT UP!

Hogan backs off but has nowhere to go as Sting forces him into the corner and hits him with mounted punches. Hogan staggers out, trying to clear the cobwebs but Sting sends him off the ropes and decks him with a clothesline. Sting gets a nearfall and Hogan rolls out of the ring. He trips Sting's ankle, bringing him down to the floor. They brawl around ringside until Hogan rakes Sting's eyes. Hogan tells us "this is for the World Title man" sending Sting into the guard rail. Sting is softened up with more right hands and sent into another guardrail. Hogan slams Sting on the floor and drops the elbow. Sting fights back when he gets to his feet and this time Hogan's head meets the guard rails at ringside. Sting drops Hogan throat and shoulder first onto the guardrail, but Hogan is able to rake his eyes as Sting tries to take the match back to the ring. Hogan sends Sting into the guardrail and chokes him with some cable. Sting is able to crawl back in the ring, but he's hanging off the apron. Hogan takes advantage and drops some more elbows before we return to the ring properly.

Hulk Hogan hits a back suplex and thinks that's the match over. He covers Sting, but Sting is able to get his shoulder up at 2. Hogan goes straight into a chinlock but begins pulling Sting's arm back as he forces his knee into Sting's back. Hogan brings Sting to his feet as Schiovane mentions that Sting's facepaint can be an indication of how much a match has taken out of him, and his paint seems to be disappearing. Hogan clubs away at Sting's back. Hogan applies an abdominal stretch in the middle of the ring, but Sting doesn't give up. Hogan tries the element of surprise rolling Sting up but only gets a nearfall. Hogan brings Sting back down for two more consecutive nearfalls. Hogan kicks Sting in the midsection before punctuating it with a right hand. Sting fights back with a pair of back elbows but Hogan cuts him off. Raking first at the eye, then the back. Hogan attacks Sting in the corner with mounted punches before biting his forehead. Hogan has a telling off before knocking Sting down with more basic strikes. Hogan covers for a close nearfall. Hogan brings Sting to his feet and sends him across the ring. Sting ducks a clothesline and hits a running crossbody. It takes the referee a while to realise it's a cover and Sting get's 2.7 at least.

Sting hits a pair of Stinger Splashes but Hogan's able to avoid a third. He Hulks up and you know the drill. Three right hands send Sting into the ropes, Hogan sends him across the ring and hits a Big Boot before dropping the Legdrop of Doom. But DDP'S  HERE! He knocks out the referee before stalking up to Hogan (maybe where WWF got the idea?) Diamond Cutter drops Hogan, and Page drapes Sting's lifeless body over Hogan. DDP wakes up Nick Patrick and he begins to slowly count but Hogan just gets the shoulder up! Diamond Dallas Page hits a Diamond Cutter on Nick Patrick and that wakes Hogan up somehow? It also brings Bret Hart back out, and The Hitman disposes of Page. Hogan knocks Sting out to the floor with right hands. Sid Viscious runs out, but misses a clothesline and eats a Big Boot, quickly rolling outside.. Lex Luger joins the fray with a baseball bat, but Hogan cuts him off before he can use it. Hogan sends Luger across the ring and sends him down with a big boot. Sting has the bat behind Hogan! Hogan tries to convince Sting that everything's Luger's fault but instead Sting attacks Hogan with the bat! A new referee comes out as Sting locks in a Scorpion Deathlock on an unconcious Hogan to win the match.

WINNER: STING (NEW WCW CHAMPION)

This was such a basic match it was unbelievable. It was interesting to watch the first few minutes for Hogan chainwrestling, but once it went outside it seemed to just seem like they did stuff to do stuff. I think this was supposed to be a heel turn for Sting, at least on mute it would look like one. The problem with that is the crowd loved it more than anything in the match. I'm not a fan of everyone and their mother getting involved in the match, and the finish blew. It's just really not a match I needed to watch. – WORKRATE: 2/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 1/5 OVERALL 3/10
