SENSATIONAL” QUEEN SHERRI VS. SAPPHIRE
WWF Summerslam (27th August 1990)

As a special bonus and since it isn't really a match by any description, I'm going to be posting this review today also, since it links to today's original post also. "Sensational" Sherri was "The Macho King" Randy Savage's valet, and Sapphire is a friend of his rival Dusty Rhodes.

We begin with Queen Sherri in the ring wearing interesting attire. Punctuated by Vince McMahon on commentary asking what the hell it is supposed to be. Sapphire's music (well Dusty Rhodes') hits but she's nowhere to be seen. "The Fink" calls for her again, restarting the music but again no one appears. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper wants to know how scary Sherri is, and is anticipating Sapphire's appearance. A suit comes down to the ring, informing Fink that Sapphire has 30 seconds to get to the ring before she loses by forfeit. Sherri is getting agitated in the ring but the time runs out with no change.

WINNER: "SENSATIONAL" QUEEN SHERRI (FORFEIT)
This was more an angle than a match, so I'm not going to rate it. It furthered the angle but could they not have done it without advertising Sapphire to wrestle? Did Sapphire even wrestle? Waste of time personally, but I have no emotional investment to the angle so I'm sure people will tell me how wrong I am.

After the match "Mean" Gene is backstage with a worried Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes is worried about Sapphire and her expensive gifts, although it's her business and Rhodes hasn't seen her happier. Sapphire disappeared 10 minutes after she and Rhodes arrived and no one's seen her since. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan walks into shot and Rhodes asks if he's seen Sapphire. Duggan says he hasn't but everyone's looking for her. Rhodes goes off to look also. Later in the night, Queen Sherri gets an interview backstage with Okerlund. She calls herself victorious but Okerlund questions her bragging about the win. Sherri says she's allowed to brag when her opponent is too scared to face her. Sherri says if rumours are true Sapphire isn't as dumb as Sherri thought. We don't find these rumours out though as Sherri goes hysterical. Interestingly this leads into a 5-minute intermission in the show.
