DANIEL BRYAN VS. KANE

Help out the blog by bookmarking this link to Amazon.

Daniel Bryan enters first and as the fans chant “Yes” at him, he chants no back. This feud started due to AJ Lee's love polygon story arc. The fact that Bryan's a heel here, and Kane's the face really messes with me for some reason. Kane enters the match and our commentators are Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler

KANE VS. DANIEL BRYAN
WWE Summerslam (19th August 2012)

Bryan circles around avoiding Kane as the bell rings, darting in and out with kicks to the hamstring, shouting “no” with each. Kane catches the third kick and shoves Bryan to the mat. Bryan avoids an elbow drop and is able to get more kicks in, but Kane puts a stop to that with a kick to the gut. A throat thrust sends Daniel Bryan into the corner. Kane sends him across the ring, but he hasn't scouted Bryan being immune to them as he runs up the turnbuckles, backflipping back over Kane but Kane catches Bryan with a scoop slam, Bryan sits up and eats a basement dropkick. Remember when it was a big thing for Kane doing a dropkick...? Kane covers but Bryan kicks out immediately. Bryan tries to find refuge in the corner, but Kane follows him with a right hand. Bryan crawls to the other corner and Kane stomps at him. Bryan avoids the turnbuckles again but is caught on Kane's shoulder, he slips out the back grabbing a waistlock, but Kane grabs the rope and sends Bryan across the ring, catching him with a big boot. Kane covers and barely gets 2.

Kane sends Bryan across the ring into the ropes, but Bryan hits a basement dropkick. More leg kicks for Bryan as the fans chant “yes” to his “no” getting inside his head. Kane grabs Bryan and flings him over the top rope. Kane exits the ring but Bryan darts back in and dropkicks Kane through the ropes. Bryan dives through the ropes on to Kane. Bryan starts holding his shoulder as we see a replay of him being dumped out of the ring. Kane's back in the ring at 4, and Bryan climbs to the top rope, flattening Kane with a missile dropkick. Bryan covers but only gets 1. It's strange hearing Michael Cole put over Bryan after the last 2 years, and as I type that Lawler mirrors my thoughts. Bryan kicks Kane in the chest but Kane shoves him back into the ropes, sending him flipping over with a clothesline! Kane is finally able to irish whip Bryan into the turnbuckles, sandwiching him with a clothesline. Kane does it again the other side before dropping Bryan with a sidewalk slam for a nearfall.

Kane knocks Bryan back down with his flying clothesline, but Bryan avoids the chokeslam, rolling out to the apron. Kane follows, but gets his jaw-jacked on the top rope, Bryan scurries into the ring, and right into a throat thrust. Bryan slaps Kane and has the look of instant regret, Kane just beats the shit out of Bryan, forcing him back into the corner. The referee keeps warning off Kane, but giving him more time to beat down on Bryan, eventually Kane lets it up for a second and the referee is at 4. Bryan hits a drop toehold, sending Kane's head into the middle turnbuckle before Bryan kicks the rope back into Kane's face. Bryan looked diabolically pleased with himself after that and he tries to grab the LaBelle lock, but Kane is able to struggle, and he's able to clasp his hands. He sends Bryan across the ring but Bryan hits a brutal sounding roundhouse to Kane's head!

Daniel Bryan takes too long stood in the corner, looking pleased with his work. The fans keep getting in his head and he climbs to the top rope, Bryan with a flying headbutt, KANE CAUGHT HIM! Kane hits the chokeslam to Bryan. Kane's still pissed off about the slap to the face and stalks Bryan. Kane lifts Bryan for a Tombstone but it's countered into a small package giving Bryan the win!

WINNER: DANIEL BRYAN

The negative first. 95% of Daniel Bryan's offense was kicking. I get that he can't just slap on submissions to Kane right off the bat, but some variety wouldn't have killed. Bryan can utilize that kick in any in-ring position. That doesn't mean he has to every match. Besides that the crowd was really into the match, Bryan and Kane really made this angle work and it gave them some of their best work at this point. Kane got to look a bit like his old monster self, but this match lacked much energy in it. Bryan taking shortcuts to get an advantage makes sense, and him trying to get Kane as frustrated as he was in the match was a very good subtle plot in the match. It worked against him pissing Kane off, but he still got the cheap victory. The match did what it had to do. – WORKRATE: 2/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2.75/5 OVERALL 4.75/10

The following year's Summerslam couldn't be any different. Kane was breaking in new “spooky guy” on the roster Bray Wyatt in a “Ring of Fire” match (no it's not an inferno match, shut up. Inferno matches are completely different. I know this because I'm on the internet and have an opinion OK? OK good.) where as Daniel Bryan was getting a shot at John Cena's WWE Championship after being handpicked by the champ himself. Hmmm, wonder which match to pick.
