CESARO & SHEAMUS (C) VS. SETH ROLLINS & DEAN AMBROSE

Help out the blog by bookmarking this link to Amazon.

Before the match, the video package shows that former Shield members Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins have been working well together over the last month. Ambrose still doesn't trust Seth fully and didn't come to Seth's aide on Raw 2 weeks ago in his match against Sheamus. Seth Rollins helped Dean Ambrose out after he beat Cesaro later in the night, leaving people guessing how the relationship between them is. Then finally six nights ago on Raw, after going after each other they joined forces against Sheamus and Cesaro, giving us the teased Shield fist bump. Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Booker T are your commentary team for this match.

Before Smackdown's tag team championship match on the Preshow, any lineage of tag team championships has only changed hands once. If Rollins and Ambrose win tonight it will be a clean sweep over this Brooklyn weekend with NXT, Smackdown and Raw tag team championships all changing hands. Seth Rollins won the tag team championships with Roman Reigns as part of the Shield, Ambrose has never won the gold. The champions enter first as a unit, and Rollins waits for Ambrose at the foot of the ramp so they enter the ring to face off with the champions together.

CESARO & SHEAMUS © VS. SETH ROLLINS & DEAN AMBROSE
WWE Summerslam (20th August 2017)

Dean Ambrose starts with Cesaro, both former United States champions. Cesaro has his shoulder taped up. Cesaro powers Ambrose into the corner, getting an immediate tag out. Ambrose slips away back to Rollins to wait out the 5 count. Sheamus takes Ambrose down with a side headlock. Ambrose gets back to his feet, and Sheamus backs him into the ropes. Ambrose forces Sheamus against the ropes instead and Sheamus shoves him away. Ambrose sneaks behind Sheamus before getting a side headlock, Sheamus backs Ambrose into the ropes but doesn't notice Rollins getting the blind tag. Ambrose suplexes Sheamus over for a knee drop from Rollins. Ambrose hits a sly elbow drop before getting out of the ring. Rollins covers getting 1. Rollins brings Sheamus to his feet, but Sheamus puts him on the top turnbuckle. Seth Rollins tries to fight Sheamus off with clubbing blows but Cesaro got a blind tag and he knocks Rollins off the turnbuckle with a running European uppercut.

Seth Rollins land on his feet out of a scoop slam attempt, tagging out to Ambrose. Cesaro is sent into Ambrose's boot before the former Shield brothers knock him down with a running back elbow. Ambrose covers but only gets a 1 count. Ambrose chops Cesaro but they have no effect. Cesaro hits a knee to the gut and European uppercut. Cesaro crosses the ring but Ambrose follows, kneeing him in the gut and tagging out to Rollins. Ambrose and Rollins each hit Cesaro with running dropkicks. Sheamus tries to help his partner but a superkick to the gut by Rollins puts a stop to his plans, Ambrose knocks him out of the ring and the challengers stand tall as Sheamus and Cesaro strategize on the outside. Booker T and Cole argue about Ambrose & Rollins' teamwork since it's been a few years since they were 2/3rds of The Shield and their relationship is frayed, to say the least.

Cesaro gets back in the ring and knocks Ambrose off the apron, where Sheamus hits him with a Brogue Kick on the floor. Rollins kicks Sheamus through the ropes and sends Cesaro outside, Rollins dives through the ropes but is caught and gently placed on the floor. Cesaro rolls Rollins back in the ring as we see a replay. Cesaro gutwrenches Rollins over, keeping him in the champions' corner as Cole talks about Cesaro winning the United States Championship in his Pay-Per-View debut at Summerslam 2012. Sheamus gets the tag and Cesaro holds Rollins in place for a running knee drop. Sheamus hits Rollins with a European uppercut before Cesaro comes back in with an axe handle off the middle rope. Cesaro applies a chinlock on the mat, but Rollins counters with a jaw breaker. Cesaro kicks Rollins into the corner, Rollins fights both champions and hits Cesaro with a blockbuster from the second rope to get out of the corner. Cesaro gets the tag and Ambrose is still on the floor. Rollins' gets to his empty corner, and Sheamus runs his knee into Rollins' back, Sheamus lifts Rollins for a suplex, throwing him to the mat and covers for a nearfall.

The camera cuts to Cesaro running into the crowd, and he just buries a beach ball, ripping it to pieces as Sheamus is setting Rollins up for the clubs to the chest from the apron, they stall nicely, with Rollins trying to fight it off, but as the camera comes back Sheamus clubs at Rollins' chest and drives his forearm into Rollins' back, before one final shot to the head. Cesaro is now the legal man and he brings Rollins in the ring with a suplex before covering for a nearfall. That's enough action for now as he tags back out. Sheamus stomps on Rollins as Cole reminds us Cesaro and Sheamus ended The New Day's record championship run. Rollins lands on his feet from an alley-oop attempt and knocks Sheamus down. Rollins catches his breath as Ambrose makes his way back to the corner, Sheamus gets the tag and Cesaro gets between the Shield members with a front facelock on the mat. Cesaro uses his size to force Rollins into the center of the ring and he isolates an arm. Cesaro pulls back on Rollins' fingers, but Rollins makes it to his feet. Rollins lands on his feet, flipping out of a back suplex attempt and sidesteps Cesaro, sending him out of the ring!

Seth Rollins slowly crawls towards Ambrose, but Cesaro makes the tag first. Sheamus drags Rollins back by his ankle, Ambrose avoids the cheap shot but catches the referee's attention by trying to help Rollins. The champions have Rollins on the other side of the ring. Cesaro drags Rollins down to the floor and Rollins finds it to fight back. Sheamus attacks him from behind and the champions double team him until Ambrose dives on the crowd from the top rope! Dean Ambrose throws Rollins in the ring and sprints to his corner, trying to will Rollins on. (Could he not have tried to get him closer?) Sheamus tries to get hold of Rollins, he grabs his ankle but gets kicked off. Sheamus is knocked into Cesaro who tags in, Rollins rolls under a clothesline and gets the hot tag. Ambrose ducks the clothesline, knocking Cesaro down with his own. Ambrose is sent across the ring but fires back with another clothesline, knocking Sheamus down on the floor with a slingshot plancha. Dean Ambrose blocks a European uppercut, turning it into a backslide for a nearfall!

Dean Ambrose drops Cesaro with a swinging neckbreaker and climbs to the top rope, but has to jump over an interfering Sheamus. Ambrose knocks Sheamus with a back elbow and Rollins knocks him down with a springboard clothesline before Ambrose and Rollins both send him over the top to the floor. Cesaro charges and gets clotheslined over to his buddy before Ambrose and Rollins his stereo topes through the ropes! Ambrose rolls Cesaro back in the ring and tags back out to Ambrose for an assisted sling-blade. (Michael “dumb as” Cole called it a blockbuster) and Rollins gets a nearfall. Maybe a blockbuster could have got them the titles. Sheamus drags Rollins to the outside to save his partner, but Ambrose has tagged back in. Ambrose has to change target from the top rope and that split-second costs him, diving on to a European uppercut for a nearfall. Dean Ambrose avoids the Neutralizer and looks to get the better of a right-hand exchange until Cesaro kicks him into the ropes. REBOUND LARIAT! Both men are down before Cesaro makes a tag to Sheamus.

Sheamus knocks Rollins off the apron and boots Ambrose in the face before skinning the cat up onto the top turnbuckle. He starts favouring his wrist on the top rope, and Ambrose is able to make it up there with him. Sheamus blocks a superplex as Rollins appears back on our screen, kicking Sheamus in the back of the head as Ambrose hits a forearm. Ambrose hits the superplex this time as Rollins tags in, following immediately after with a frog splash. 1, 2, Cesaro breaks up the count but can't stop Ambrose and Rollins double teaming Sheamus in the corner. Sheamus is perched on the middle rope so Ambrose and Rollins have him in position for a double powerbomb, but Cesaro runs more interference, he sends Rollins over to the floor, allowing Sheamus to roll Ambrose up from behind, 1, 2, no! Sheamus hits a tilt-a-whirl slam but still can't stop Ambrose kicking out. Sheamus tags out to Cesaro who hits a cross body from the top turnbuckle! Ambrose rolls through for a nearfall. Cesaro counters Dirty Deeds into a Big Swing, but he minimizes rotations before stepping through and sitting deep for a sharpshooter. That's instantly jumped up my list of favorite sharpshooters.

Ambrose tries to get to the ropes but Cesaro drags him back mid-ring. Rollins is back on the apron but Sheamus takes care of him with a senton bomb on the floor. Ambrose nearly gets to the ropes again so Cesaro transitions into a crossface, Ambrose tries to roll through but Cesaro keeps it going getting Ambrose into the middle of the ring again, Ambrose is able to roll it over for a cover, but Cesaro kicks out breaking the crossface. As they get to their feet Cesaro boots Ambrose into the ropes and Sheamus gets a cheap shot in as Cesaro distracted the referee, scouting the rebound lariat. Cesaro makes the tag and lifts Ambrose in a powerbomb position, Sheamus comes off the top rope with a clothesline but only gets a nearfall. The champions can't believe it. Sheamus tags Cesaro back in and they hit a High Cross, 1, 2, Rollins breaks it up last second! The champions double team him in the corner, and Sheamus chucks him to the floor, leaving Cesaro with Ambrose.

AMBROSE STILL WANTS TO FIGHT! Urging Cesaro on from his knees. Cesaro tags in Sheamus and they charge Ambrose, Cesaro hitting him whilst Sheamus lays in some boots. “Dean Ambrose is having a Tyler Durden moment, realizing what reality is” - JBL. Sheamus sets Ambrose up for White Noise as Cesaro jumps to the middle rope, seating himself on the top. Rollins from nowhere springs to the top rope, super hurricanrana sends Cesaro into Sheamus! Rollins hits Cesaro with a superkick, and one for Sheamus! Rain-Trigger to Sheamus, he staggers into Dirty Deeds and Ambrose covers, 1, 2, 3!

WINNERS: DEAN AMBROSE & SETH ROLLINS (NEW CHAMPIONS)

Firstly, fuck the heat on Seth Rollins. Dean Ambrose was laid out for 20 minutes from a Brogue Kick. I mean... What did Sheamus have in his boot!? I'm actually thankful for the dickhead with the beach ball breaking it up. As Ambrose got back into the match it was able to speed up a bit and the match started working for me. Cut that sequence in half to tighten the match up a bit and it would be a better match, but a serviceable one none-the-less. – WORKRATE: 3.25/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2.25/5 OVERALL 5.5/10

WOW! That was a marathon... September will be a more varied month, and I shall try to hit a match from every WWF/WWE Pay-Per-View [In Your House 3, 10, 17 & 24, Unforgiven 1999-2008, Breaking Point 2009, Night of Champions 2010-2015, Backlash (SD) & Clash of the Champions (Raw) 2016 & No Mercy (Raw)2017*] (24 matches) (54.54%) (8)

WCW Clash of the Champions 3 (1988) 8 (1989) 12 (1990) 16 (1991) 20 (1992) and the Fall Brawl Pay-Per-Views from 1993 – 2000. (13 matches) (29.54%) (4)

Eastern Championship Wrestling Ultra Clash 3 (1993), Extreme Championship Wrestling Gangstas Paradise (1995), Unlucky Lottery (1996), Wrestlefest: 50 Years of Funk, As Good As It Gets (1997), Ultra Clash 1998, Anarchy Rulz 1999 (7 matches) (2)

Overall that gives me 44 possible reviews for the month. With 1 review per day (and some magic and convenient maths) giving me 14 free passes for events. I do try to use the WWE Network for all the reviews under that umbrella that I can. WWF, WWE & WCW will get 4 “Free Passes” each, with ECW getting the remaining two. I shall also be posting them in the order the events aired. Tomorrow shall be the Russian Chain match between Ivan Koloff & Robert Gibson, before using my first “Free Pass” for 1989. I can't use 2 in a row, so I have picked Stan Hansen vs. Z-Man from 1990 before finishing the week off with Steve Austin defending his WCW Televison Championship against Tom Zenk.

*As of writing Smackdown doesn't have a Pay-Per-View scheduled for September 2017.
