We get special in-ring announcing for this match. William Regal talks about how much harder it is to make your name in your own country then do the same again overseas, which is a feat both of these men have accomplished in their careers already. We get a stare down in the middle of the ring before both men lock up. Neville has a strength advantage, but as they go around the ring Kidd is just able to keep Adrian Neville at a disadvantage by switching positions at the right time. We get a clean break in the corner and a tense handshake, with some choiced words between the two. Tyson slips behind Neville and gets a headlock takedown. Neville gets back to his feet and pries himself free with a top wristlock but Kidd goes back to the side headlock on the mat. Again Neville gets to his feet and gets a top wristlock, this time Tyson takes control of the arm, but Neville athletically gets out of it. Another headlock takedown gets Neville back down on the mat, but Neville gets a headscissors on the floor, causing Kidd to kip up out. Kidd cockily pats Neville on the back causing a “you got served” chant from the fans. Do people really still say that or are NXT fans just behind on the times?
Tyson Kidd lets Neville get back to his feet and they circle again. Kidd takes control of Neville's left arm and shoulder, wrenching at it harder each time Neville gets back to his feet. Neville tries to roll out of it but Tyson Kidd forces him back down to the mat and keeps the wristlock on tight. Neville fights his way back to his feet and flips his way out of the arm wrench before flipping Tyson Kidd across the ring. Tyson Kidd looks shocked at Neville like “OK, wasn't expecting that, let's do this” and charges, but Neville grounds him with an arm drag and holds him down on the mat. Even the small things Neville does like using Kidd's fingers to get him in a more painful position in this move help add to this match. (Slight gripe, he used the shoulder that's been worked on for 127% of the match so far) Kidd keeps trying to shove Neville away with his foot, but each time he gets close Neville applies the pressure harder. Neville brings Kidd back to his feet, keeping control of the arm, arm-capture Northern Lights Suplex by Neville! He keeps pressure on the arm bar (complete with chant from the fans) before Tyson Kidd makes friends with the bottom rope to cause the break.
Kidd gets back to his feet and Neville talks trash, Tyson goes for the standing headlock again but Neville shoves him into the ropes, Kidd gets the better of a shoulder block (which surprised me) before going prone. Kidd jumps him then baseball slides under Neville, before Neville gets moving again and rolls under Kidd's legs. Kidd goes for a monkey flip but Neville lands on his feet! Arm drag by Neville, but a quick reply by Tyson Kidd, both men go for a dropkick at the same time, and roll through to a kip up for another tense stand off. The fans love it, but Tyson Kidd isn't paid by the hour so he hits Neville with a flush forearm sending him down. Kidd stomps on Neville before sending him chest first into the turnbuckle. Neville gets put in the tree of woe before Tyson kicks him again, checking his ankles keep him there in the process. Kidd lifts Neville's torso and kicks him hard in the back. Neville is still stuck there so Kidd does it again, before crossing the ring and putting an exclamation point on the attack with a running hesitation dropkick, finally freeing Neville from his position. Neville got his front 4 teeth knocked out by Brodus Clay a couple of weeks ago, and that dropkick connected clean in the mouth.
Kidd brings Neville to his feet and sends him across the ring, running back elbow by Tyson Kidd gets him a nearfall, and he locks in another headlock on the mat, Neville fights his way to his feet but Kidd drops him back down to the mat as Regal talks over the importance of grinding down your opponent in matches. Neville again fights his way to his feet, and breaks free with punches to the midsection, but Kidd hits him with a Hot Shot off the top rope, Tyson Kidd sends Neville out of the ring with a dropkick and follows up with a running somersault plancha through the ropes. Kidd gets Neville straight back in the ring and covers again, hooking both legs, but Neville again kicks out at 2. Tyson hits a knee drop and locks in a chinlock. Neville fights to his feet but Kidd knees him in a Muay-Thai clinch and sends him into the corner. Neville meets Tyson Kidd with a boot and ducks a clothesline before both men collide with running cross bodies. Both men are down till 5, but Tyson is first to his feet in the corner. Neville's there to meet him with a right hand, and another one, but Kidd gets a spin kick to the gut in, but Neville knocks him down with a running forearm! Again Kidd goes down to the mat, and this time Neville follows up with a sequence of kicks, finishing off with a running front dropkick to Kidd.
Neville's getting pumped up now, he climbs to the middle rope, but Kidd's too far away. Neville goes back down to the mat and uses Kidd's momentum to put him in the tree of woe and hits him with some hard kicks to the back in response from earlier, going one better and hitting three of them to Tyson Kidd's back. Neville then crosses the ring and hits his own hesitation dropkick, getting more hangtime than Kidd did. Neville goes out to the apron, as Kidd tries to figure out where he is, then get to his feet. FLYING FOREARM BY NEVILLE! 1, 2, 2.5.... NO! Tyson Kidd kicks out! Kidd hits Neville with a hard forearm and goes back into the ropes to catch his breath. Kidd kicks Neville as he flips over the top rope to the apron, but Neville hits a front dropkick, sending him down to the floor. Neville looks like he wants to fly but Kidd is able to kick Neville before he launches! Tyson Kidd slowly crawls over and hooks the leg for a cover, but the champ kicks out at 2 again. Tyson Kidd climbs to the top rope, possibly looking for his Blockbuster, but he took too long and Neville met him with a forearm shot, crotching him on the top rope. Neville ascends the ropes looking for a superplex, but Kidd fights him off. Kidd awkwardly knocks Neville's head into the ring post and goes for a sunset flip off the top, but Neville flips out and LANDS ON HIS FEET! This fucking guy! Pop up sit out powerbomb by Neville! 1, 2, 2.5, 2.9, 2.99.... No!
William Regal says Tyson Kidd trained harder for this match, going back to Calgary to train with his uncle Bret Hart. Neville also put some extra training in for this match. That's another gripe, when a commentator feels the need to include both members of the match in a story that doesn't need them. It's like a WWE participation medal for fuck's sake. Neville hits a pair of kicks to Kidd's chest, before Kidd tries to send him across the ring. Neville reverses that and Kidd ducks too early, getting a third kick for the effort. Neville looks for a springboard move off the second rope but Kidd is able to meet him up there and hits a Russian leg sweep off the middle rope! Kidd again slowly crawls for the cover, and again gets a nearfall, with Neville's kickout looking more desperate than his last. Kidd climbs to the top rope, and looks to be going for a stomp (seriously, that's all it can be) but Neville gets his boots up, Kidd lands just in safety though and tries to lock in the sharpshooter, but Neville rolls him up! 1, 2, NO! Kidd gets back to his feet and hits an enziguri! Running dropkick to the side of the head follows and Tyson tries to suplex Neville. Neville is able to stay on his feet though, in trying to suplex Kidd, Neville sends both men tumbling down to the floor. Referee begins to count both men out as we get a replay of both men going over the top rope. Regal mentions that Kidd has to get Neville back in the ring to win the championship, referee gets to 9 as both men are on their feet and they both just make the count. Neville being a fighting champion by making sure he didn't take the easy victory.
That needed burst of energy seems to have taken a lot out of both men though, as they just can't capitalise on being back in the ring. Kidd somehow able to roll himself closer to Neville, and they just grab at each other trying to reach their feet, both men on one knee and the champion hits a forearm. Another forearm by Neville, and Kidd misses a right hand. Hard chop by Neville keeps Tyson Kidd at bay, Neville tries to gain some momentum but Kidd trips him and rolls him over for a sharpshooter! Neville is able to roll through, but Tyson Kidd grabs the arm and Regal calls it the Dungeon lock, but Kidd doesn't have it all the way on. Kidd switches between kicking Neville's head and wrenching on the arm. Referee has to check on Neville, and that wakes him up and he's finally able to grab the bottom rope. Neville slides himself out to the apron but Kidd doesn't give him a moment to rest. Kick to the chest by Kidd keeps Neville where he wants him as Kidd climbs to the top, Somersault leg drop to the back of Neville's head! Kidd drags Neville to the centre of the ring and covers, hooking both legs, 1, 2, 2.9999 NO! Neville uses all he has to kick out again!
Tyson Kidd is asking himself what he has to do to put Neville away, then he gets a look in his eye like he has an idea, he climbs to the top rope again, but Neville gets to his feet and grabs Tyson's ankle. Kidd hits Neville with right hands and kicks him away. Tyson resets his footing but Neville's there again, this time climbing to the middle rope and hitting Tyson Kidd with right hands. Again Neville is sent back down to the mat. Kidd again regains balance on the top rope, but Neville, that damn Neville. He just runs and leaps to the top hitting Kidd with a super-hurricanrana! Kidd flies through the air across the ring, and Neville crosses the ring to finish things off with the Red Arrow!
WINNER: (STILL NEXT CHAMPION – ADRIAN NEVILLE
This match had a nice simple story, and it told it well. Tyson Kidd was using NXT, the championship and by association Neville to get his way back to the main roster, Neville wouldn't let himself or the brand he loves be a stepping stone, so he showed Tyson what Full Sail wrestlers can do. Kidd was usually just ahead of Neville in the match, but the champion had the homefield advantage, so to speak. Kidd used his crafty tricks to try and get ahead, and almost won the title with the Hart sharpshooter, creating an amazing false finish. Another career making (or furthering) match for Neville, and it shows me how underrated Tyson Kidd could be when he brought it. I'd rate it 6.8/10
