Earlier in the night, Nikolai Volkoff and Jim Duggan had an interview backstage with Sean Mooney.
Before the match, Demolition are annoyed that they lost the WWF Tag Team Championships, and they vow revenge on The Hart Foundation and Legion of Doom.
Back to the ring for the Brother Love Show. Brother Love puts over Philadelphia over as the City of Brotherly Love and says that people are weak and they need someone to tell them what to do. He has just the man in Sgt. Slaughter! Slaughter is here to present the Sgt Slaughter Great American Award, and since everyone else in America is weak and soft, the only real man is Brother Love. He also declares war on Nikolai Volkoff, who has become weak since joining America. Sgt. Slaughter says Saddam Hussein would kick USA’s ass if he invaded tomorrow.
The Orient Express (Tanaka and Sato) along with Mr. Fuji are by the pink lockers with Sean Mooney, but the interview is interrupted with Breaking News with Mean Gene Okerlund! Sapphire completely blanks Mean Gene on her way into the locker room. The Orient Express sprint to the ring and use television magic to appear in the ring. JimDuggan and Nikolai Volkoff enter, and they are going to pay homage to Kate Smith, who used to sing “America the Beautiful” at big Philly Flyers games.
It doesn’t sound great, even with the crowd’s assistance, but it’s skippable. Duggan blesses all of the American Troops in the Middle East.
Vince McMahon and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper are on commentary for the match, & Howard Finkel is our ring announcer.
THE ORIENT EXPRESS VS. JIM DUGGAN & NIKOLAI VOLKOFF
WWF Summerslam 1990 (15th August 1990)
The Orient Express attack Duggan and Volkoff from behind to start the match, but we miss it. Jim Duggan holds one of the Orient Express up for a long time to hit stereo atomic drops with Nikolai Volkoff.
The Orient Express are sent out of the ring, and a “USA” chant starts. The Americanised Volkoff starts with Tanaka. Nikolai Volkoff knocks him down with a shoulder tackle. Tanaka hits the ropes and runs into another shoulder tackle. Tanaka gets another run up, he ducks the clothesline but is caught by Volkoff. Sato hits Volkoff with a chop from the top rope, and The Orient Express isolates Nikolai in their corner. Mr. Fuji gets a shot in with his cane from ringside. Saito makes the tag and connects with a hook kick, Tanaka back in as another “USA” chant fires up. Nikolai Volkoff rolls out of the way of the running splash. He crawls over and makes the tag to Duggan. Jim Duggan connects with lefts and rights to Tanaka, and Sato gets caught in the crossfire. That gives Tanaka time to hit Duggan in the throat with a double thrust. Duggan ducks a double-team clothesline and knocks his opponents down with a double clothesline of his own. Jim Duggan alternates punches between Tanaka and Sato before finishing it with a noggin knocker.
Jim Duggan knocks Tanaka and Sato down with clotheslines before Nikolai Volkoff joins the fray. The Orient Express are sent into each other, Volkoff sends Sato to the floor as Jim Duggan hits the 3 Point Stance clothesline for the win.
WINNERS: JIM DUGGAN & NIKOLAI VOLKOFF
This was a short USA vs. The World match. Nikolai Volkoff took the heat, and
after a hot tag they got out of there. It's difficult to complain,
but it caps the ratings. [*3/4] 3/10
