KEVIN SULLIVAN VS. NORMAN THE LUNATIC

 Before the match, Missy Hyatt is backstage, she announces that she’s Jim Ross’ new co-host for WCW Main Event. I can’t imagine that was a rough gig for JR to agree to. Cactus Jack makes his way towards the Tough Guys band and brawls with one of the band members as JR throws it to Gordon Solie and Norman the Lunatic. Gordon Solie explains a falls count anywhere match to Norman. Norman says that Sullivan is clever and has been coming after him like a rat. Sullivan is in the ring as we return from the commercial break.

  We return from the commercial and a video of Norman the Lunatic at the zoo is shown. He walks up to a pig calling it Kevin Sullivan. Norman makes his way out and Cornette says he’s handing out food stamps before calling Norman the Lunatic a child molester. Jeez. He’s introduced from “The State Hospital” too for an added touch,

Jim Ross and Jim Cornette are on commentary for this match.

KEVIN SULLIVAN VS. NORMAN THE LUNATIC (Falls Count Anywhere)

WCW Clash of the Champions X: Texas Shootout (6^th February 1990)

  Kevin Sullivan goes right on the attack at the bell. He dumps Norman to the floor and kicks him in the head from the apron before jumping at him. Norman the Lunatic reverses an irish whip, sending Sullivan into the ring post.

  Back in the ring, Sullivan is sent off the ropes, he gets a sunset flip but can’t bring Norman down. Norman the Lunatic sits down and sends Sullivan into the corner. Kevin Sullivan gets his boots up to meet Norman in the corner and goes to the tp rope, Norman the Lunatic brings Sullivan down with a slam, and Kevin Sullivan rolls out of the way of a splash from the middle rope. Kevin Sullivan knocks Norman to the arena floor with a dropkick and slams him for 2. Kevin Sullivan clubs at Norman’s chest whilst trying to remove his shirt. Norman has to use one hand to keep a gap between his shirt and his throat. Sullivan hits a rough-looking back suplex but considering Norman’s 380lbs you can’t be surprised. That gets Kevin another 2 count. Kevin Sullivan hits Norman with a running knee lift and gets back in the ring. Jim Cornette shits all over Norman on commentary as Sullivan kicks Norman from the ring and chokes him with Norman’s own shirt.

  Kevin Sullivan hits a clubbing blow from the apron and sends Norman’s head into the barrier. Sullivan rakes at Norman’s face and gets back in the ring, keeping Norman on the floor. Just as I type that Norman the Lunatic is back in the ring. Sullivan connects with right hands as JR goes over his amateur background then says it’s not relevant in this match anyway.  They exchange right hands, Norman the Lunatic knocks Kevin Sullivan down with headbutts. Norman the Lunatic chokes Sullivan with his shirt and sends him through the ropes with a headbutt. Norman punches Sullivan as they move up the aisle and sends him into the barricade before covering for 2. Kevin Sullivan backdrops Norman and gets a 2 count on the ramp. They brawl backstage and Gordon Solie joins commentary. He’s walking toward the action as Kevin Sullivan darts into the women’s bathroom. Norman the Lunatic reads the sign and hesitates, a woman runs out of the bathroom and he decides it’s clear, the referee joins and Gordon Solie is trapped outside.

  Gordon Solie puts the microphone to the bathroom door and it sounds like Norman the Lunatic has the advantage. Norman the Lunatic and the referee walk out of the bathroom to announce Norman the winner.

WINNER: NORMAN THE LUNATIC

 Strange finish, it was a good brawl but had it’s limitations. Coming directly after Cactus Jack’s match with Mil Mascaras meant the energy was taken from the crowd slightly so they had to work to get that back. It was a pretty basic brawl but got the job done and protected Sullivan. [**] 4/10
