Scotty Flamingo makes his way out with JT Southern for his WCW television debut. Joey Maggs is already in the ring. Flamingo has entered the Light Heavyweight division and has already got his eyes on the championship.
Tony Schiavone and Jesse “The Body” Ventura are on
commentary for this match.
SCOTTY FLAMINGO VS.
JOEY MAGGS
WCW WorldWide (2nd May 1992)
Scotty Flamingo
trips Maggs and tells the crowd to settle down as Ventura says he likes
wrestlers who worry about their hair.
Joey Maggs is taken down with a drop toehold,
Flamingo gets a front facelock on the mat but is brought back to his feet in a
hammerlock before elbowing out of it. Joey Maggs is dropped with a shoulder
tackle but returns the drop toehold and brings Scotty Flamingo to his feet in a
headlock. Scotty Flamingo counters into a top wristlock but is back in the
hammerlock, elbowing Maggs in the nose. Flamingo hits the ropes and gets one leg
up for a leapfrog, Maggs takes a jog and runs into a knee to the midsection.
Joey Maggs is whipped into the ropes but he rolls over the knee this time and
rolls Flamingo up for 2. Scotty Flamingo shows some aggression with right hands
and back rakes, taking Maggs to the corner before choking him. Scotty Flaming
kicks Maggs in the midsection in the corner before dumping him through the
ropes as commentary makes comparisons to Brian Pillman, which is a great
compliment to the newcomer. Joey Maggs is brought back to the ring, he reverses
an irish whip but eats shit on the dropkick. Scotty Flamingo sends Maggs into
the corner and immediately follows, barely giving Maggs time to turn around
before connecting with an elbow to the face.
Scotty Flamingo fluffs a running clothesline
slightly before finishing it with a piledriver and a strange looking pin.
WINNER: SCOTTY FLAMINGO
This was a really basic, short match to showcase Scotty Flamingo to the audience, he may have rushed through from the missed dropkick to the finish but that’s nitpicking in a match that they didn’t get much time for. [*¼] 2/10
After the match, we see a replay of the finish and go to
commercial. When we return Jesse Ventura reintroduces Flamingo saying he’s in
WCW to face a certain somebody. Scotty joins Jesse on the stage. He says he’s
never worked a day in his life because he’s never had to, even though he has
multiple degrees. But being spoiled doesn’t mean he can’t take on anyone in the
ring. He finishes with a rhyme and I can cross “Raven rapping” off my
list of things to see in my lifetime.
