ORLANDO JORDAN (C) VS. CHRIS BENOIT

The show starts with Lillian Garcia singing the USA National Anthem. The crowd chant “USA” and we go to tonight’s video package highlighting the card before focusing on tonight’s Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels main event. The theme song for the show was “Get it Poppin’” by Fat Joe and Nelly, but Vinnie Mac wasn’t paying for that on The Network. Jim Ross welcomes us to Washington D.C. for Summerslam and gives us a bloated attendance over 18,000. He is handling Raw’s commentary duties with Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jonathan Coachman. The Spanish announce team is then introduced before Michael Cole and Tazz are brought into the conversation. Chris Benoit makes his way out first and they use his American Residence because he gets a pop in the Capital. Orlando Jordan makes his way out, he beat John Cena back on 3rd March and we’re not sure if Cena’s career ever truly recovered, but he seemed to be OK. Michael Cole stutters through Orlando Jordan saying earlier on Heat that he was going to knock out Chris Benoit, focusing on Jordan’s boxing experience.

Michael Cole and Tazz are on commentary for this match.

(WWE United States Championship)

WWE Summerslam 2005 (21st August 2005)

They lock up, Chris Benoit backs the champion up into the corner and Orlando Jordan gets a cheap shot in as the referee gets between them to break. Orlando Jordan shows off his footwork but Benoit ducks a right hand and hits a german suplex, Chris Benoit holds on but transitions into the Crossface and forces Orlando Jordan to tap out.

WINNER: CHRIS BENOIT (NEW WWE United States Championship)

This match is too short to give a star rating too, but it was the best way to use Orlando Jordan if you have him on payroll. Minimally. The crowd were into it and that’s the only reason it gets the extra ¼.  1.25/10
This match led to a short burst of personality from Chris Benoit as he would complete different tasks backstage that took longer than making Orlando Jordan tap out in this match, including (separately making a coffee and going to the bathroom.
