Jesse Ventura explains that Valentine has a brace on his leg because his knee is still giving him trouble. Valentine bails to the floor but Ronnie Garvin follows and connects with overhand chops before sending Valentine back into the ring.

Ronnie Garvin headbutts Valentine, then another overhand chop and a right hand to knock Valentine down. Ronnie Garvin covers out of habit and he’s reminded it’s a submission match. Greg Valentine’s head is sent into the top turnbuckle as the crowd counts along. Greg Valentine tries to make some space but Garvin follows him around the ring, boxing him. Greg Valentine kicks Garvin in the midsection as Jimmy Hart shouts advice from ringside. Greg Valentine chops at Garvin’s chest but Ronnie Garvin fights back, getting the better of the exchange and knocking “The Hammer” down with another right hand. Greg Valentine goes to the floor for some advice from Hart. Back in the ring, they exchange more jabs. Ronnie Garvin grabs a bearhug in the ropes then shoots for the single-leg but it leaves him open for another shot from Valentine. Greg Valentine hits an elbow drop he hits the ropes but misses the second one as Ronnie Garvin rolls out of the way. Greg Valentine with a knee to the midsection before Garvin can get anything going and he hits a jumping headbutt to the midsection.

Greg Valentine covers but it doesn’t matter, Garvin powers to his feet but Greg Valentine lays in stiff jabs. Ronnie Garvin has to cover up before he can gets some shots in of his own, he stuns Valentine with a headbutt, they both drop to the mat. Greg Valentine goes up for the Piledriver, but he avoids it. Garvin is backdropped over but he holds on for a sunset flip. Greg Valentine fights it off and sits down but again, no pins, Garvin rolls through and Valentine kicks out as Hart shouts the match stipulation again. They both get to their feet and Garvin backs into the corner before locking up with Valentine. Greg Valentine backs Garvin into the corner and connects with an overhand chop, setting up a series of knife-edge chops. Ronnie Garvin tries to grab a headlock but gets sent off the ropes, they collide in the ring and drop. Greg Valentine adjusts his leg brace but gets sent into the turnbuckle. Ronnie Garvin rolls Valentine up again, but it does nothing. Valentine chops Garvin down and hits a fist drop, then another before placing his leg over Garvin’s chest.

Greg Valentine puts Ronnie Garvin in the Figure Four, but Ronnie Garvin is smiling. Ronnie Garvin’s brace is protecting Garvin from the Figure Four. Jesse Ventura calls bullshit on Garvin’s brace but Tony thinks it’s perfectly fair. Garvin rolls Valentine up with an inside cradle and I’m starting to get annoyed with it. Valentine chops Ronnie Garvin and lifts him on one shoulder for a backbreaker. Ronnie Garvin doesn’t submit and Ventura, who used to use the move, tells us Valentine should have hooked his hands for pressure. Greg Valentine hits the ropes for another elbow drop. Garvin kicks off a Figure Four attempt and gets choked by Valentine, so he starts pulling his hair. They grab at anything, getting to their feet and Ronnie Garvin backs Valentine into the corner as we get a shot over Valentine’s shoulder of Garvin going at him.

Ronnie Garvin headbutts Valentine in the corner and brings him down to the mat in a drop toehold. Ronnie Garvin applies what Ventura calls an Indian deathlock-type move, twisting Valentine’s knee and ankle. Greg Valentine makes it to the bottom rope, but Garvin keeps it synched in since there’s no disqualification. Greg Valentine escapes to Jimmy Hart at ringside as Garvin releases the hold and takes a breather, getting feeling back in his leg. Valentine grabs Garvin’s ankle and trips him, sending his knee into the side of the ring and dragging Garvin to the floor.

Greg Valentine connects with chops against the ring but Garvin has receipts for nearly all of them. Greg Valentine fights off another Piledriver attempt with a backdrop and he gets back in the ring. Yeah, I’d hate to land on the blue mats of death out there. Ronnie Garvin is met in the ring with forearms and shoulder thrusts in the corner. He reverses an irish whip sending Valentine into the corner but gets hung up in the Tree of Woe. Greg Valentine takes some shots whilst Garvin is tangled in the ropes and the referee lets him down. Greg Valentine with an overhand shot and a chop to Garvin, a forearm connects and Garvin grabs a desperate headlock. He gets sent off into the ropes and again they knock heads in the middle of the ring. Jimmy Hart removes Garvin’s shin brace and alerts The Hammer, who hits a backbreaker. That sets up Figure Four, which Garvin fights as he tries to turn it over. Garvin gets the pressure reversed but Valentine makes it to the ropes, turning he hold back over on Garvin as he grabs them and that forces a delayed break.

Ronnie Garvin can’t get back to his feet so Hammer stomps at Garvin’s leg and pulls it back, he drops his knee onto Garvin’s leg but another attempt at the Figure Four is countered with another inside cradle. Valentine drops Garvin with right hands, he goes to the top rope but is brought down to the mat by Garvin hopping on one leg. Garvin removes Valentine’s brace and they exchange strikes, with Garvin needing to use the ropes to stand up. Greg Valentine sends him off the ropes but Garvin ducks the clothesline, he knocks Valentine back with a right hand and ties Valentine up in the ropes like he’s Andre the Giant. Ronnie Garvin grabs the Hart Breaker, Valentine’s brace, as Hart is on the apron trying to help the referee free Valentine. Ronnie Garvin brings Hart into the ring and stalks him on one leg as Greg Valentine gets free, grabbing Garvin’s brace on his way to Garvin.

Ronnie Garvin strikes first, knocking Valentine down and he puts the Sharpshooter on Greg Valentine, who tries to fight it off before giving up.

WINNER: RONNIE GARVIN

This was a pretty good match for the time, but doesn’t hold up over time in my opinion. The crowd were into everything Ronnie Garvin did, they did everything right but it didn’t click to me. [**] 2/10
