KEVIN NASH (C) VS. BOOKER T

Kevin Nash won the WCW title from Booker T on 28th August edition of Nitro, with an assist from Jeff Jarrett and his guitar. This after Jeff said he would be an objective referee, because wrestlers can’t be trusted.

A blonde interviewer asks Booker T about his Steel Cage title shot tonight. Why advertise it as Caged Heat if you just say “steel cage” anyway. Booker T says it’s been 3 weeks and he wants his title back. He’s gonna get it back and tells Nash to hate the player, not the game, which was apparently a catch phrase he was trying to get over.

Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson and Mark Madden are on commentary for this match.

Bruce Buffer is stood inside the cage for the BIG FIGHT INTRODUCTIONS! Kevin Nash enters first to the NWO Wolfpac theme, which is the best wrestling theme in WCW history in my opinion. Charles Robinson is our referee. Kevin Nash starts loosening a turnbuckle pad as Madden calls him one of the best Big Men in wrestling and the challenger makes his way out.

Kevin Nash gets out of the Book End attempt with a swift back elbow, Booker T bounces back into the ropes then into a big boot from Nash to the face. WINNER: BOOKER T (NEW WCW World Heavyweight Champion)

This was a basic match, which is all it needed to be. It was a short main event only running 7 minutes and never gave itself chance to build within the time. The cage only made sense when commentary mentioned Nash wanting to keep Booker T in a confined space and it was a way to get Kevin Nash to blade, but it wasn’t really necessary. [*] 1.75/10

Scott Hudson reminds us that Booker T doesn’t have long to celebrate, as Sting has a championship match tomorrow night on Nitro.
