Before the match, we go to Shawn Michaels 2 weeks previous via satellite. He has a re-evaluation with his doctor the Friday before Summerslam and will have an update on his career at the event. He comes out to the ring with his wife Rebecca and grabs a microphone. He thanks the fans for allowing him to be the Showstopper and goes through the injuries he’s had over the years. Chris Jericho interrupts and tells Shawn he needs to say that Jericho was the one that ended his career. Jericho says his attack should stand alone, not be added to Shawn Michales’ injury list. Shawn Michaels tells Jericho to sit his wife and kids down to apologize for not being Shawn Michaels. Chris Jericho swings for Michaels but hits Rebecca instead, legitimately giving her a fat lip, not pulling his punch. To her credit, not only did she sell it like she was shot, but according to Chris Jericho’s book Undisputed, she asked if it was all Jericho had when they got backstage.
Matt Striker and Todd Grisham are on commentary for
this match.
We see the two competitors after their tag team victory a
couple of weeks ago on ECW, then Mark Henry hit the World’s Strongest Slam on
Hardy. Matt Hardy is looking for his revenge, and his championship back.
Matt Hardy makes his way out first, Grisham goes over the
titles Matt has won in his WWE career. Mark Henry makes his way out with Tony
Atlas, Striker says that although Henry is known for his strength, he’s been
working on conditioning and speed recently, Hardy gives up 150lbs to the
champion in this match. We get in-ring introductions so we can pretend the ECW
title matters.

(ECW
Championship)
WWE SummerSlam 2008 (17th August 2008)
Matt Hardy ducks under a right hand and connects with some of his own, but it only takes one clubbing blow to switch the momentum. Mark Henry throws Hardy into the corner and charges, but Matt Hardy gets out of the way sending Henry into the corner. Matt Hardy hits the Twist of Fate and covers, but Tony Atlas drags him out of the ring. Atlas sends Hardy into the ring steps as the referee calls for a disqualification
WINNER: MATT HARDY (Disqualification)
This was a nothing match. It didn’t last long enough to give a rating, but it was cool seeing the Hardyz team up for a minute or so and Atlas take a Swanton Bomb I guess. [DUD] 1/10
Jeff Hardy appears and attacks Tony Atlas, he hits a
Swanton Bomb from the apron to Atlas on the floor, drawing Mark Henry out to
the floor. The Hardy Boyz double-team Mark Henry and hit a double suplex,
getting back in the ring to stand tall.
