Before the match Ludvig Borga tells Lex Luger to keep dreaming the American Dream (not Dusty Rhodes) as he tries to win the WWF Championship. He says the building that he’s near is crumbling like America due to their Welfare system. He’ll show us all what he’s about.
Marty Jannetty makes his way out first to a surprising reaction, McMahon gives me a chuckle as he calls Marty one of the great competitors. Ludvig Borga makes his way down giving Jannetty an icy stare.
Vince McMahon and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan are on commentary for this match. The Fink is our ring announcer.
LUDVIG BORGA VS.
MARTY JANNETTY
WWF SummerSlam 1993 (30th August 1993)
Ludvig Borga gets some shots to the ribs, backing Jannetty into the corner. A clubbing blow sends Jannetty down to his knees before Borga sends him across the ring.
Marty Jannetty staggers out of the corner into a clothesline. Ludvig Borga connects with knees to the midsection in the corner and sends Jannetty off the ropes, Jannetty is sent into the air and Borga catches him with a right hand to the ribs on the way down, which really impresses Brain. Borga lifts Jannetty in a chokehold and carries him to the corner for another right hand, using his boxing experience but making the match slightly repetitive to review. Marty Jannetty finally gets some offense with a weak kick from the corner, but Borga keeps control with, you guessed it, a right hand and a clubbing blow. Jannetty gets another kick to the midsection, but no effect before he’s sent into the corner. Jannetty evades the charge, he tries to clothesline Ludvig Borga but he doesn’t budge so Marty gets a running start, only to get flattened by a clothesline himself. Ludvig Borga mixes it up with a headbutt, he sends Jannetty off the ropes but ducks early. Marty Jannetty tries a sunset flip but can’t bring Borga down and gets socked again. Ludvig Borga lifts Jannetty into a bearhug, Marty tries to fight it off with rights and lefts, Ludvig Borga seems to be absorbing them until Jannetty claps his ears (what a classic move) Jannetty tries and fails to lift and Borga for a slam and is turned inside out with a clothesline. Ludvig Borga sends Jannetty across the ring, another sunset flip attempt and Jannetty moves out of the way of the punch, understandably because it’s 20% of Borga’s move set. Marty Jannetty hits two Superkicks but Borga is still on his feet so the former Rocker goes to the middle rope. His crossbody attempt is caught and he’s slammed to the mat.
Ludvig Borga gets some shots to Jannetty’s ribs before putting him in the Torture Rack, Marty tries to fight it but the referee calls for the bell as he becomes lifeless.
WINNER: LUDVIG BORGA
This was a basic squash match for Ludvig Borga on his PPV
debut. It wasn’t meant to be much but it still managed to disappoint. It was
slow and plodding, but it made Borga look like a monster, and Jannetty’s flip-sell
of the clothesline was pretty good. Just a shame it wouldn’t mean anything within
a year or so. [*½] 2.25/10
