Before the match, Trish Stratus cuts a promo backstage on her match tonight with Charlotte.
Dolph Ziggler makes his way to the ring and he has a
microphone. He says legends come and go in this company but he consistently
steals the show. He calls Goldberg a no-show and says he fears Ziggler before
the ominous music and “Goldberg” chants start. With the absence of the Undertaker,
he’s on entrance stretch-for-time duty.
Corey Graves, Michael Cole and Renee Young are
on commentary for this match.
Dolph Ziggler was supposed to be facing The Miz, but the
contract was changed to make the match for the next night’s episode of Raw, Miz
then revealed Goldberg to be Ziggler’s opponent after teasing Shawn Michaels
being the opponent.
Dolph Ziggler walks around ringside as Goldberg gets to the top of the ramp, but backs away as Goldberg approaches. I have to point out the fan dressed as Bret Hart booing Goldberg from ringside as he walks past. Goldberg waits for Ziggler in the ring.
DOLPH ZIGGLER VS.
GOLDBERG
WWE SummerSlam 2019 (11th August 2019)
The bell rings as the fans chant for Goldberg.
They face off and Dolph Ziggler hits the Superkick, he covers but Goldberg
immediately kicks out. Ziggler hits another Superkick and Goldberg kicks out at
1 again. Goldberg hits the Spear and another Goldberg chant starts as he
hits the Jackhammer for the win.
WINNER: GOLDBERG
This match was too short to give a real rating to, it was
a typical Goldberg squash, turning the clocks back to 1998. Dolph Ziggler was a
good heel in this character because he was justified, he is one of the more
consistent people on the roster but I think that has made people just consider
him a “decent hand” and nothing more, the curse for being credible and good at
your job as Mr. Ziggler. [N/A] 1/10
After the match, Dolph Ziggler has a microphone, he tells
Goldberg that he feels like a baby hit him, although he is crawling to the
ropes to try and get to his feet. Dolph Ziggler eats another Spear and tries to
leave again; he’s getting his steps in for the day if nothing else here.
Ziggler wants the microphone again, although he barely has the air in his lungs
to tell Goldberg that anyone can get lucky twice. That’s not true, I can’t
remember getting lucky even once. Dolph Ziggler calls Goldberg a laughingstock
and claims he’s the best as he gasps for breath. Goldberg is back out and he
brings Ziggler’s lifeless body to his feet. He goes to leave the ring but
thinks again, hitting the ropes to get momentum for a third Spear, which Dolph
Ziggler sold amazingly.
