Randy Orton is returning from injury to face Brock Lesnar, the match is billed as 15 years in the making and I remember looking forward to it at the time. On the 1st August episode of Raw, Paul Heyman claimed Orton could never hit an RKO on Brock Lesnar, leading to Orton coming out and hitting an RKO on Brock Lesnar. Lesnar got his revenge, hitting Orton with an F5 the next night on Smackdown. They each had a match against HeathSlater on their respective go-home shows. Heath appearing on both because he was a free agent after the WWE Draft. Lesnar predictably destroyed Slater on Raw, with Orton getting himself disqualified to reserve energy and hitting an RKO on the poor bastard after the match.
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman make their way out first,
walking past a “got juice?” sign referencing his USADA bust after UFC 200. Raw co-General
Managers Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon watching on a monitor
backstage. Heyman does an introduction for Brock Lesnar, including calling him
a Viper Slayer. Orton makes his way out and Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan,
Smackdown Commissioners are shown as JBL goes through his credentials. Manallo
brings up the pattern of both winning their first World Championships at
SummerSlam, each becoming the youngest World Champion at the time.
Corey Graves, Mauro Ranallo, Byron Saxton
and John “Bradshaw” Layfield are all on commentary for this match
BROCK LESNAR VS.
RANDY ORTON
WWE SummerSlam 2016 (August 2016)
The bell rings and they face off, Orton is able to play keep-away, but Brock Lesnar tackles him into the corner, hitting the shoulder tackles and knees to the midsection. Randy Orton fights back with clubs to the back but Lesnar shakes them off. Orton uses the top rope to block a german suplex and escapes the waistlock with back elbows. He dropkicks Lesnar but the RKO is shoved off. Brock hits a release german suplex, and another. Randy Orton gets to his feet in the corner. He boots Lesnar but Lesnar fires back with knees to the midsection, driving Orton down in the corner. Brock brings Orton to his feet and hits another german suplex. Randy Orton tries to fight back in the corner but knee strikes and shoulder tackles. Another german suplex for Orton. Another knee strike and german suplex send Orton out of the ring as Ranallo comments on it being the 6th in the match. Orton struggles to his feet and staggers Lesnar with forearm shots, but Lesnar lifts Orton on one shoulder and drops him on the announce table. Orton escapes to the front row but Lesnar sends him back to ringside through the announce table! Orton is sent back in the ring for a german suplex before the destruction at ringside continues. Lesnar clears the Raw announce table before placing Randy across it. ORTON HITS THE RKO! He makes it back to the ring, waiting for Lesnar. He hits the draping DDT as Lesnar tries to get back in the ring. Randy Orton hits the second RKO and covers 1, 2, NO! Randy Orton backs himself into the corner as Heyman panics at ringside. Orton runs into the F5! 1, 2, no! Graves says he “could have” been going for the Punt Kick and my question is what else would it be? Genuinely, I want ideas. Brock takes his gloves off and rains forearm shots down on Randy Orton’s head. Orton is left in a pool of his own blood. Lesnar bcaks off and lets the referee and doctors check on Orton, but goes back to get more shots in until the referee calls the match for Brock Lesnar.
WINNER: BROCK LESNAR (Technical Knockout)
This was just big moves and rest, making it a difficult for a real rating. It would have been an interesting match[*½] 2/10
Brock Lesnar continues the assault after the match, drawling
out Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahonn. Shane tells Lesnar to get out
of her and the match is over, taking an F5 for his troubles.
