CHYNA (C) VS. LITA

Lita is backstage before her match with The Hardy Boyz. Eddie Guerrero approaches them and offers some advice but Lita says she wants to go it alone, but she appreciates the attempt. Steve Austin and Debra are backstage, Commissioner William Regal approaches and apologizes, saying Undertaker was in his office earlier and threatened him into making their main event tonight No Holds Barred. Steve Austin’s fine with that.

 

  In the run-up to this match, Chyna had said there was no competition for her in the women’s division. Lita offered her a challenge and Chyna tested her in a tag team match, declining a tag so Lita could prove her worth. As is tradition the challenger comes out first, with Chyna following. Both receive positive responses. Chyna has a peacock-like head-dress on for her entrance

WWF Judgement Day 2001 (20^th May 2001)

  They hug as the bell rings and circle to lock up. Lita puts Chyna in a headlock and is sent off the ropes into a kick to the midsection, Chyna lifts her overhead but gets rolled up for 2. Chyna returns the favour with an inside cradle and knocks Lita down with a forearm. She clubs Lita across the back and kicks her in the ribs before an irish whip sends Lita off the ropes into a clothesline. Chyna sends Lita off the ropes again, but Lita ducks a clothesline, Chyna kicks her in the gut and drops her with a short-arm clothesline but it looked sloppy. Chyna covers and only gets 2. Lita sent off the ropes for a third time, Chyna ducks early and eats a tornado DDT from Lita, who mounts with right hands. Lita stomps Chyna and hits a clothesline from the middle rope for a nearfall. Lita is sent into the corner but she floats over Chyna who hits the turnbuckle with her shoulder. Lita targets the arm with an arm wringer as Chyna is spilling out of her attire, Lita lays in right hands as the fans are getting into the match.

  Chyna shoves Lita down to the mat and the camera focuses on the challenger as Chyna makes herself comfortable. Lita goes back to the arm wringer but is shoved to the mat again, Chyna hits a neckbreaker and sends Lita off the ropes into a powerslam for a 2 count. Chyna military presses Lita before letting her drop to the mat. She covers but lifts Lita’s shoulder at 2. Lita rolls through into an armbar, but it’s countered into a headscissors on the mat by Chyna as Eddie Guerrero is shown at the top of the ramp. Chyna is able to bring Lita away from the ropes and the referee checks Lita’s arm, she’s been in the headscissors a while. It drops twice but Lita is able to kick up on the third, keeping herself in the match and getting close enough to wrap her ankles around the bottom rope and break the hold. Chyna lets Lita get to her feet and sends her across the ring by her hair. Chyna attempts a powerbomb but it’s countered into a hurricanrana by Lita, she only gets a nearfall. Chyna counters a Twist of Fate attempt into a powerbomb, she hits it this time as the back of Lita’s head bounces off the mat. Chyna covers for the win.

WINNER: CHYNA (STILL WWF Women’s Champion)

This was an OK match, Lita looked on Chyna’s level throughout and the respect shown before and after didn’t stop them from pulling everything out that they could, but it’s limited by the run time eand there were a few slow moments. [*¾] 2/10

They hug again after the match, because why not.
