STEVEN REGAL VS. X--PAC

We see the updated tournament brackets before X-Pac enters for the match. Good Ol' JR and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary and X-Pac is the current European champion.

The bell rings and X-Pac taunts Regal with crotch chops. They lock up, Steven Regal gets a headlock and some cheap shots on X-Pac. X-Pac escapes but Regal blocks a hip toss, X-Pac up and over, then hits Regal in the face with a heel kick. Steven Regal is sent upside down in the corner, X-Pac hits a back suplex and covers for 2. Running legdrops get X-Pac another nearfall before he sends Regal into the corner. X-Pac charges but runs into the turnbuckles. Steven Regal hits a European uppercut and gets a nearfall of his own. He keeps X-Pac on the mat with a seated abdominal stretch, wearing him down for another European uppercut. The crowd tell Regal he sucks, but he made the 14-man WWF championship tournament so he can't be that bad! Regal hits knee strikes and snapmares X-Pac down by his hair. Steven Regal hits a kneedrop. X-Pac is sent into the corner but he avoids Regal's attack and rolls him up, no Steven Regal rolls through and catapults X-Pac across the ring to eat shit.


Steven Regal stands over X-Pac with a chinlock. He starts pulling X-Pac's shoulders back, but X-Pac is able to get to his feet. Regal kicks X-Pac and locks in a cobra clutch, he turns X-Pac around and pulls him into a gutwrench suplex for a nearfall. At this point we see Vince McMahon on-screen talking about the match. Could we not have got that in the chinlock? Steven Regal puts on a figure four necklock on the mat. The winner of this match faces Steve Austin in the next round. X-Pac rolls over to his front and is able to counter into a cloverleaf type move before hitting Regal with some ground and pound. X-Pac peppers Regal with strikes as he gets to his feet. Steven Regal is sent into the corner but X-Pac collides with the turnbuckles as Regal moves out of the way. Regal crotches X-Pac on the corner and hits a butterfly superplex! Steven Regal covers 1, 2, X-Pac kicks out, and again.


Regal goes back to the seated abdominal stretch. X-Pac is brought to his feet, he reverses an irish whip sending Regal into the corner. Steven Regal knocks X-Pac down with a shoulder block and hits a European uppercut. X-Pac reverses an irish whip, Regal runs into a spinning heel kick which get X-Pac a nearfall. Steven Regal is groggy on his feet, X-Pac dropkicks him into the corner and hits the Bronco Buster. X-Pac hits a suplex and climbs to the top rope, Steven Regal sends himself into the ropes crotching X-Pac across the top rope before he falls to the floor. Steven Regal follows him out but X-Pac blocks a butterfly suplex, he hits Regal with a vertical suplex and starts the mounted punches as they get counted out.


WINNER: DOUBLE COUNT OUT


This match – As a match it's * but personally I'd rate it 1/10


Mr. McMahon tells Sargeant Slaughter to go out there and get overtime started for this match, other wise Austin is getting a bye. X-Pac is at the bottom of the entranceway when Slaughter gets out there, The Fink announces the overtime but referee Tim White says X-Pac can't compete and he's helped to the back. Steven Regal chases him backstage and Mr. McMahon is pissed that Austin is through on a bye. Pat Patterson says there's still a chance Austin won't make it.
