RANDY SAVAGE VS. DDP

These guys got the thumbnail for the event on the WWE Network so together with hearing constant good things about this feud it must make the match important. Tony Schiovane, “The American Dream” and “The Brain” are on commentary for this match. They're throwing the non-sanctioned stipulation at this too, with a “lights out” thing done so we can get a pyro show. Randy Savage represents nWo coming out to their theme. His merchandise is also following a black and white style in contrast to his earlier colourful designs. Kimberley comes out to the stage but DDP enters through the crowd and attacks Savage from behind.

RANDY SAVAGE VS.DIAMOND DALLAS PAIGE (Falls Count Anywhere)
WCW Great American Bash (15th June 1997)

The match begins with Savage on the ground as Diamond Dallas Paige stomps on him. Paige rams his shoulder into Savage, but Savage escapes a Diamond Cutter attempt and goes to the floor. This was during Paige's taped ribs thing. DDP stomps Savage's hand to stop him getting in the ring and hits a slingshot plancha but as I said, taped ribs. Randy Savage is the first to his feet and he boots DDP in the ribs. DDP stops himself getting sent into the guardrail, bouncing Savage's head off it. Savage hides behind Liz on his way back into the ring, Paige runs over a prone Savage, Savage blocks a hip toss and ducks a clothesline, but Paige hits one with his other arm. Paige goes back to his ribs and hits an athletic diving clothesline then sends Savage over the top rope to the floor. Savage goes to DDP's face and sends him into the crowd. Savage follows and drops Paige's throat on the guardrail. They fight through the crowd and DDP is sent into some chairs on the back floor row, but sends Savage into a wall. DDP uses Savage to open a door to the lobby area and grabs a crutch from the crowd. He waits for Savage to get back to him, jabbing the crutch into Savage's ribs and hitting it across his back. “welcome back to the arena” - Tony Schiovane

DDP talks trash to Savage and sends him into the side of the bleachers. Savage lands on a guardrail so Paige drives his elbow into Savage's ribs. DDP brings Savage back close to ringside, Savage tries to fight back but is sent back over the guardrail. DDP climbs onto the guardrail but Savage slams him down on the mats. Randy Savage irish whips DDP and he has to force himself into the ring steps. Made worse by Savage tripping on his way back into the ring (they tried to cut from it, but you still catch it on the Network) Macho Man grabs some powder, blinding DDP and breaking a sign over his head. They both drop to the floor and the referee's stood there like a lemon because there must be a winner. Randy Savage is first to his feet, stomping DDP's ribs and removing his bandages. The fans chant for Sting as Savage boots at DDP in the ropes. Savage spits at the referee and decks him. RANDY SAVAGE HITS A PILEDRIVER ON THE REFEREE! Dusty Rhodes didn't even sound shocked as it happened. DDP was probably slightly thankful since it gave him a chance to fight back to his feet. DDP headbutts Savage, but it sends Paige back into the corner to get his bearings too. Savage gets to his feet and boots Paige in the ribs.

Randy Savage keeps DDP in the corner with jabs and starts to choke him whilst standing on the second rope. A second referee comes out and gets piefaced by Macho Man. He gets sent out to the floor sacrificing himself so DDP can get more shots in from the corner. Savage is sent across the ring but gets the boot up to Paige. Randy Savage explodes out of the corner with a clothesline. The second clothesline sends DDP over to the floor, where Kimberley checks on him. Savage goes out to the floor, following Kimberley and forcing the fans to try and talk him around, along with our third referee of the match. Randy Savage sends DDP up the entrance way with a running knee but gets sent into the cheapest looking VIP I've ever seen beside the stage. DDP smashes a glass plate and a plant pot over Savage's head from the VIP picnic area before slamming him through a picnic table. Brain says he's seen picnics like this. DDP empties the charcoal out of the barbeque and chokes Savage with his own shirt, dragging him back to the ramp and throwing him down. DDP runs Savage all the way down to the ring and sends him corner to corner. DDP slides under Savage's boot out of the ring and crotches him against the ring post. DDP tries a piledriver but turns it into a facebuster and sets up for the Diamond Cutter. Savage drops to his knees with a jawbreaker sending DDP out to the floor. Savage follows and sends DDP into the steps before folding back one of the crash mats, Nick Patrick brings DDP's feet back down to block it and eats a right hand. He gets sent into the crowd and Savage attacks a photographer. DDP grabs a chair and hits Savage over the head with it. There's no point in covering, three referees are out of commission. DDP sends Savage into the ring calling for a referee or someone to come down and signaling the Diamond Cutter. Savage hits DDP low but DDP blocks a suplex landing on his feet. DIAMOND CUTTER! DDP is slow to cover as Nick Patrick returns from the crowd. Scott Hall is shown running down to the ring and he attacks Patrick. DDP ducks a shot from Hall's tag title belt. Page hits a right and a combination of lefts before lifting Hall for an inverted atomic drop, another big right hand drops Hall but Savage has the belt, he hits DDP with it out of desperation but collapses to the mat. Scott Hall struggles but hits an Outsiders Edge on DDP. Randy Savage hits his diving elbow drop and covers a final assist by Scott Hall putting the referee in position gets Savage the three count.

WINNER: RANDY SAVAGE

There was a lot of bullshit in this match. When it was just Savage and DDP it was a decent throwback to falls count anywhere matches in the territory days. More about destroying the arena with a fight than beating the crap out of each other with the contents underneath the ring. Then Randy Savage started attacking referees needlessly, hiding powder and Hall waited until a referee was down (not that it was much of a choice) before running out to the ring. DDP got screwed in the return match, but that leaves me two more of their PPV matches to watch. – WORKRATE: 2.5/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2.25/5 OVERALL 4.75/10
