MATT HARDY VS. JEFF HARDY (EXTREME RULES MATCH)

I reviewed their Slammiversary match here. Back at Armageddeon, Jeff Hardy won his first WWE Championship, whilst his brother Matt was out with an injury. The following month at Royal Rumble, the older brother returned, costing Jeff the championship. MattHardy takes credit for Jeff's recent misfortunes and the video highlights their tag team careers as TheHardy Boyz. That's all over since Matt watched Jeff's career take off more than his even though he guided Jeff all their life. Jim Ross, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Michael Cole are on commentary for this match. Matt enters first as Cole mentions JR's involvement in bringing these brothers to WWE. Matt's turned more cold and calculated since his return. As Matt complained about Jeff is certainly the most popular of the two.

MATT HARDY VS. JEFF HARDY (Extreme Rules match)
WWE Wrestlemania 25 (5th April 2009)

There are choiced words between the brothers before Jeff slaps Matt across the face, Jeff takes Matt down, getting in as many rights as he can before Matt bails to the floor. Jeff finds a Wrestlemania poster under the ring and breaks it over Matt's head. Matt gets sent into the ring post but kicks Jeff in the gut before he's hit with the trash can. He sends Jeff's head into the ring steps but Jeff instantly replies in kind. Jeff uses the steps as a well... Step to jump up and hit Matt with a one man poetry in motion. Justin Roberts' chair is taken but Matt avoids a second attempt in the ring, sending Jeff crashing into the turnbuckles. Jeff hits Matt with a back elbow, but a Whisper in the Wind lands into a chairshot to Jeff's knee. Matt covers for 2 and we see a replay of the chairshot as Matt wraps Jeff around the ropes, talking trash to him in full view of the hard camera. Matt Hardy decides to grab a shop-vac from under the ring, bouncing it off his sibling's head. Matt quickly crawls in for the cover but only gets a nearfall.

Matt lays in some mounted punches as Michael Cole tries to get some hits for WWE.com, pretty much covering the whole article about The Hardy Boyz. Jeff eats turnbuckle but gets both boots up to Matt's face. Jeff Hardy's clothesline gets caught in a Side Effect by Matt, with Jeff landing on the chair. Matt Hardy hooks the leg this time but still only gets 2. Matt kicks Jeff in the gut and chokes him in the corner with a boot. Matt exits the ring and bends Jeff's back around the ring post in a sick modification of the bow and arrow. Matt grabs a table from under the ring and the fans say what they see. Matt cuts Jeff off as he gets to his feet on the apron and they tease a suplex through the table before Matt bails to the floor. Jeff completely overshoots a flying clothesline from the apron then sends Matt into the ring steps with a mule kick. Jeff looks for something else under the ring as the medics attend to a cut on Matt's head. Jeff walks around the ring to find what he wants, returning with a crutch and a kendo stick.

The kendo stick connects with Matt's back so he rolls back inside. Jeff Hardy grabs a trash can from under the ring as Cole mentions they've won tag team championships together 5 times in WWE. JR mentions The Hardys teaming together at three straight Wrestlemania's (16, 17 and 18) as Matt gets stuck inside the trash can. Jeff hits the trashcan with the crutch, slumping Matt backwards into the corner. The dropkick in the corner (later known as the Hardyac arrest) makes the trash can fall off. Jeff covers for a nearfall. Jeff removes his shirt as JR mentions the only other 2 pairs of brothers to face off at Wrestlemania are Bret and Owen Hart and Undertaker and Kane (but forgets 20, it's for the best.) at Wrestlemania X and 14 respectively. Jeff hits the mat on a Swanton bomb attempt, as they get to their feet Matt hits a Twist of Fate, but Jeff still kicks out after 2. Matt is in shock, but stays on Jeff with right hands. Matt Hardy takes too long to get to the top rope, returning to the ring via a superplex from Jeff!

Jeff Hardy swings a steel chair at Matt's head, bringing it back to where the issues started and sending him out of the ring. Matt Hardy is set up on the table, Jeff places the chair over his chest and stacks another table on top. Jeff destroys his good work with a splash from the top turnbuckle and struggles rolling Matt back in the ring. Jeff covers but Matt's just able to get his foot on the rope. Jeff slides a pair of ladders into the ring then uses the steel chair as a step up to get more height on a leg drop. One of the ladders is set up, with the second, shorter ladder next to it. Jeff climbs the shorter ladder, leaping over the taller ladder but crashing to the mat on a leg drop attempt. Matt Hardy puts the steel chair around Jeff's neck and hits another Twist of Fate! Matt Hardy covers for the win.

WINNER: MATT HARDY

Commentary mention that Jeff took one risk too many in the match and it cost him, which seems to be the way all of these matches go (sometimes becoming the whole story between the two).

This was a good enough match, the only complaint I really have is that they both went for too many covers considering how personal the feud was and the topics it covered. Matt should have been a saddistic bastard trying to hurt Jeff, with Jeff wanting revenge for all of Matt's torment. –
