The opening video package focuses on tonight's two big matches, with Sid Vicious defending his US title against Goldberg and a heel Sting facing Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight championship. We hear one of the commentators cough as the show goes live, speaking of which it's Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Tony Schiovane in that role tonight. Schiovane welcomes us and tells us all 5 major WCW Championships are on the line tonight. Due to an injury to Rey Mysterio Jr he and Konnan have been stripped of the WCW Tag Team championships, so a triple threat falls count anywhere street fight has been signed for tonight between Konnan and Filthy Animals stablemate Billy Kidman, against Harlem Heat and The First Family.
It all starts here with Disco Inferno defending his cruiserweight championship against Lash LaRoux. The champion enters and Heenan calls him half-goose. LaRoux enters and he's nicknamed “the Ragin' Cajun” he also has a nice “Lash Vegas” shirt on especially for tonight. He was confident going into this match last Monday on Nitro. He talks trash to Disco Inferno before getting ready for the match.
DISCO INFERNO © VS. LASH LAROUX (WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)
WCW Haloween Havoc (24th October 1999)
That costs him as he turns around into a clothesline. Inferno sends Lash into the top turnbuckle and stomps him in the corner. Lash LaRoux is able to get to his feet but gets sent corner to corner. He meets Inferno with a boot but gets poked in the eye before Inferno drops him with a DDT. Disco chokes Lash, then hits him with straight right hands to the top of the head. He sends LaRoux across the ring but ducks too early, Lash goes up and over, hitting Disco Inferno with a standing dropkick as he turns around. LaRoux scoops Inferno up and slams him down for a 2 count. He sends Disco Inferno across the ring, hitting a snap powerslam for another nearfall. Disco Inferno's only lost once in his 2-year WCW career. It's looking like it could be twice as LaRoux drops a pair of consecutive elbows on Inferno for 2. LaRoux hits a combination of jabs and mocks Disco Inferno without knocking him down with a clothesline for another nearfall. Disco Inferno reverses an irish whip and goes prone, hitting a back elbow on LaRoux. LaRoux answers in kind but sends Disco out of the ring instead.
Lash LaRoux sends Inferno into the steps then breaks the count early. It costs him as Inferno is able to send him into the ring post before taking it back between the ropes. Lash LaRoux catches an ax handle from the middle rope, hitting a T-Bone suplex for a nearfall. LaRoux barely gets over on a flying headscissors and Inferno lands near the ropes, getting his foot over the bottom rope as LaRoux covers. He keeps the pressure on stretching back at Inferno's neck and covering for a nearfall. LaRoux locks in a chinlock on the mat but Inferno gets to his feet, fighting free with elbows. LaRoux is knocked down with a shitty clothesline for a nearfall, and Disco sends him to the outside so he can get a breather. LaRoux hangs on and skins the cat! He counters the last dance and hits a backbreaker. LaRoux calls for something but Inferno is able to avoid it. LaRoux is sent corner to corner but catches himself on the top rope. Inferno follows and is caught in a headscissors before slamming LaRoux to the mat. He hits a spinning neckbreaker for a nearfall. Disco Inferno changes direction on an irish whip sending LaRoux sternum first into the turnbuckles and dropping him with a Russian legsweep. Disco points to the corner and hits a front falling elbow drop but still can't put LaRoux away.
Lash LaRoux is sent across the ring and runs into an elbow to the gut, Inferno follows up with a piledriver and he calls it the end to the crowd. He's slow to cover and that allows LaRoux to kick out! Lash LaRoux hits a short powerbomb from a back suplex position but Inferno avoids the fireman's carry. They flub a pair of clotheslines before Disco Inferno hits the Last Dance to end it.
WINNER: DISCO INFERNO (STILL WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION)
After the match, Lash LaRoux accepts a handshake from Disco Inferno before hitting him with what would be known as Chris Sabin's Cradle Shock within the next few years.
Lash LaRoux looked really good in this match, he kept the pressure on Disco and every move made it seem like he wanted to win the belt. They tried to pick up the pace and they couldn't quite work that speed ruining some of the work they put in and Disco Inferno seemed to be phoning it in for the match, but not an overall bad effort. Not the best opener WCW have ever had though. – WORKRATE: 2/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 2.5/5 OVERALL 4.5/10
