STAN HANSEN VS. Z-MAN

These sorts of cards don't make it particularly easy to choose which match to review to make sure I have some quality for my blog and not just quantity. However, it's always fun watching Stan Hansen beat the tar out of someone. Earlier in the night, Stan Hansen had a promo talking about getting himself up the ladder in the WCW Top Ten rankings. He's not happy about being number 6. Jim Ross and Bob Caudle are your announce team for this match.

STAN HANSEN VS. Z-MAN
WCW Clash of the Champions XII: Fall Brawl – Mountain Madness (12th September 1990)

Stan Hansen attacks Z-Man as the latter enters, Z-Man lands on his feet getting thrown over the top and quickly slides back in the ring as Hansen follows him out.

Z-Man desperately kicks at Hansen on the floor from the ring, and already he's got in more offense than I expected. It does nothing to Hansen who drags Z-Man under the bottom rope. He sends Z-Man into the safety rail and hits him with a chair. This isn't no disqualification but the referee's just letting Hansen have at it. He sends Z-Man into the elevated walkway and beats him down before throwing him in the ring. JR mentions the referee is possibly thinking of giving Z-Man the DQ win as Hansen hits the first wrestling move. A vertical suplex. Hansen gets a nearfall from a falling elbow drop. Hansen drags Z-Man under the bottom rope, hitting elbow drops and a headbutt. Z-Man gets lefts and rights in as Hansen gets back in the ring but Hansen knocks him loopy with a headbutt. Hansen chops Z-Man against the ropes. A Snapmare brings Z-Man over and Hansen grinds his boot on him. We cut to Tony Schiovane with Lex Luger as Hansen beats Z-Man around the ring. Luger says there are a lot of top contenders in WCW, and Hansen may be one of them, but it's still one of many. Z-Man mounts a comeback with chops, but Hansen's brawling gives him control again. Lex Luger is focusing on Ric Flair, as he should as we go back to solely the match. Hansen drops Z-Man with a back suplex. Z-Man takes a lot of punishment here but he lands on the middle rope, jumping back at Hansen with a cross body. Z-Man hits a standing dropkick, make that two, and he gets a nearfall.

Stan Hansen gets on his feet in the corner and slaps Z-Man, Hansen is sent across the ring but knocks Z-Man down with a shoulder tackle. Hansen flattens Z-Man with THE LARIAT for the win.

WINNER: STAN HANSEN

More of a match than I expected and the earlier interview gave Stan Hansen's aggression more reason than he's just a Badass. Z-Man was able to keep the crowd interested, getting some high-flying moves in to wake them up and make them think he could win (or even string 5 moves together.) but it was still a fun exhibition for Hansen that it was meant to be. – [*¾] 4/10
