Earlier in the night we were shown footage of `The Outlaw' Ron Bass attacking Brutus `The Barber' Beefcake on Superstars of Wrestling last weekend, he was Honky Tonk Man's original opponent for tonight. "Mean" Gene Okerlund conducted an interview with the WWF Intercontinental champion, the Honky Tonk Man and his manager Jimmy Hart. Okerlund says he knows who Honky Tonk Man's opponent is, but the champ says he doesn't care, he'll defend the championship against anyone. The Fink announces the entrance of the Intercontinental champion for the last 454 days, a record that stands today. Honky Tonk Man is eager to see who his opponent is..... We get a looooooooong pause.

(WWF
INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP)
WWF Summerslam 1988 (29th August 1988)
The Ultimate Warrior hits the ring and blocks a right hand, knocking Honky Tonk Man down with some of his own. Honky Tonk man stands up into a scoop slam and a dodgy clothesline. Honky Tonk Man takes a splash and Warrior wins the Intercontinental championship. Also, with no hyperbole, the fans are on their feet the entire time. Both in shock at Warrior answering the challenge and ecstatic that he won the belt.
WINNER: THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR (NEW WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION)
The only decision I have with this match is whether to put a DUD rating for the wrestling, or not. I'm tempted not to because the entance was sloppy, the clothesline was shit and Honky Tonk Man had to move to position for the finish so I don't want to rate it too highly, but I don't think my personal enjoyment rating alone will give this match the credit it deserves for it's historical significance in the Intercontinental championship's short life. Wrestling: DUD Personal Enjoyment: 2.5/5 OVERALL: 2.5/5
