The Ascension (C) vs. Lucha Dragons (NXT Tag Team Championships)

In a nice touch the “Then, Now, Forever” video gets hijacked by NXT to start us off, and we go right to the first match. The Lucha Dragons made their entrance and they won a tournament to gain number one contendership tonight. I'll have to review those matches at some point, I do love me a tournament. They beat Blake & Murphy, Sami Zayn & Adam Rose and the Vaudevillians over the last month. The champions enter and they've held the champions for 344 days, the longest championship reign for either belt in NXT's short history. This is a first-time matchup.

MATCH 1: THE ASCENSION VS. LUCHA DRAGONS (NXT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS)

Viktor and Sin Cara start off and Viktor uses his strength advantage to get Sin Cara backed into the corner. Referee counts for the break and Viktor gets in a cheap shot to Sin Cara's gut. Viktor hits Sin Cara with a chop, bringing him out of the corner, and a European Uppercut follows, sending Sin Cara staggering to the ropes, Sin Cara's sent across the ring but he springs off the middle rope with a crossbody and follows up with a clothesline. Another springboard cross body from Sin Cara connects and he ducks a clothesline. Springboard Asai moonsault gets Sin Cara a 1 count.

Standing dropkick by Sin Cara sends Viktor into the corner, Sin Cara charges but is sent over the top rope to the apron. He fends off Konnor but is blindsided by Viktor sending him into the barricade. Konnor is tagged in, he brings Sin Cara to his feet and rams him into the apron before sending him back into the ring. Konnor covers for 1. The Ascension keeps Sin Cara in their corner and Konnor stomps him. Viktor tags in and covers but still only gets a 1 count. Viktor tears at Sin Cara's mask and hits him with a high fist drop. Viktor covers and gets a nearfall, but holds on to Sin Cara's shoulders. Sin Cara can see Kalisto egging him on and tries to get to his feet, but Viktor slams him closer to the mat. Kalisto tries to fight his way up but Viktor uses his weight advantage to keep him down.

The fans get behind Sin Cara and he fights his way out of the hold, but Viktor slams his head into the canvas before telling Kalisto he's next. Viktor picks Sin Cara up for a powerbomb and wants to bounce him off the ropes, but Sin Cara grabs the top rope, stopping Viktor's momentum, hurricanrana by Sin Cara! But Viktor's sent close to his corner. Viktor makes the tag and forearms Kalisto down to the floor. Sin Cara still goes over to the corner and calls for his partner, leaving Konnor to hit him with an avalanche. Konnor gets another nearfall. He tries to bring Sin Cara to his feet, but Sin Cara boots him away. Sin Cara desperately tries to crawl to his corner, but Konnor grabs his tights. Sin Cara hits an enziguri, but he has nothing left in the tank to tag out. Kalisto wants the tag, Konnor is able to grab Sin Cara and uses his major weight advantage to keep Sin Cara in place, crawling himself over Sin Cara and pulling at his mask. Sin Cara elbows Konnor away from his mask, but Konnor just shoves him on all fours to The Ascension's corner. Konnor makes the tag but Sin Cara is able to flip out of it and get the tag to Kalisto too!

Jumping kick from Kalisto rocks Viktor, Kalisto follows up with a high springboard crossbody. Konnor gets a kick for good measure. Kalisto ducks a clothesline attempt by Viktor and hits a corkscrew springboard cross body off the middle rope before getting another kick on Konnor, sending him off the apron. Viktor catches up to Kalisto though and goes for a gory bomb, Kalisto SUNSET FLIPS OUT OF IT! 1, 2, 2.999, NO!!! Konnor was there to save the belts. Sin Cara low bridges Konnor sending him to the outside. Kalisto hits a baseball slide and Sin Cara dives through the ropes sending him down on the ramp. Viktor hits Kalisto and sends him across the ring but Kalisto sends him to the arena floor with a hurricanrana. Kalisto springboards out of the ring with a cross body onto The Ascension, but they catch him! They send Kalisto overhead but he lands on his feet. Sin Cara flies through the ropes again, knocking both champs down with a clothesline! Kalisto checks on his partner as the fans are going crazy for the Lucha Dragons.

Kalisto brings Viktor back into the ring, since it's the only way the Lucha Dragons will win the championships, and he climbs to the top, he leaps over Viktor, who's got to his feet, and runs into an STO. Konnor gets back in the ring and The Ascension set up the Fall of Man. Sin Cara grabs Konnor's ankle from the outside, kicking him in the head. Viktor runs towards Sin Cara, who gets on the apron. He's quickly knocked off but it gave Kalisto time to recover. He ducks a clothesline but grabs Viktor's arm to keep him close. Salida del Sol in the middle of the ring gives us new champions.
WINNERS: LUCHA DRAGONS (NEW CHAMPIONS)

Another great opening match for a Live Special. The Ascension got a good chance to show why they were dominant champions for so long, singling out Sin Cara, but the Lucha Dragons' speed and high flying kept them ahead of the champions once they could both get involved. – Rating: 5.5/10
